About this listen

Part 1 of a uniquely sensual and romantic tale. Forget all you've heard about vampires. This is probably the best vampire book you will ever read. Vampires didn't just appear. They were the product of a grave injustice. And now from beneath the streets of London they have come to remedy the situation. 3400 years ago, the ancient Egyptian Pharaoh Amenhotep IV, also known as Akhenaten, changed the religion of generations. Those of the widespread priesthood who would not relinquish the old gods were banished into the Osiris underworld, into the realm of the dark. Yet those who were banished from the face of the Earth were loyal to the great god Osiris – they knew the underworld could not be banished forever. They considered themselves to be the soul of humanity – a soul that needed to feed in order to exist. For centuries those who were banished lived in the underworld, or in the deepest nights secretly emerged on to the surface where the Dominion of Man created their empires and fought their wars, unknowing of the soul of the underworld who fed from the body. With the eternal life of the great god Osiris, the banished had become vampires. Now, with the help of modern technology liberated from the Dominion of Man, the intensely organised Vampire Nation, and powered by nuclear fusion, was wreaking havoc throughout the world. By means of shifting the Earths tectonic plates, a massive series of volcanic eruptions was spilling ash into the skies, blocking out the sun. For over 2000 years, the slaves of the Vampire Nation, stolen from the surface, had been creating tremendous caverns beneath the city of London with the sole purpose of blocking out the light of the sun. A young woman – Ayesha – is seduced into entering the caverns and becoming a part of the ambitious Vampire Nation. She discovers wonder and lust, and then she discovers horror. When she tries to escape, she is captured and chained – then freed by those who are struggling against the “vamps”, led by a female vamp called Lillith who has her own reasons for hating the Vampire Nation. As the skies darken across the world and the Vampire Nation holds a massive televised political rally calling upon the worlds disenchanted to rise up, Ayesha is recaptured and led back to the caverns beneath London, setting in progress a chain of events entwining around ancient love and bloody ambition – that sets off a nuclear explosion beneath London.
