About this listen
In our age when the church can too often seem like a poor copy of the world, Chad Bird challenges us to reclaim the astounding originality of our ancient, backward faith. Where the world stresses the importance of success, Bird invites listeners to embrace nine specific failures in the areas of our personal lives, our relationships, and the church. Why? Because what human wisdom deems indispensable is so often an impediment to our spiritual growth, and what it deems insignificant is so often essential to it.
With compelling examples from the Bible and today, Bird paints an enticing picture of the counterintuitive, countercultural life that God wants for us. He helps listeners delight in all of the ways that Jesus turned the world upside down, allowing us to experience true freedom, not from our weaknesses but in the midst of them.

Most of us are regular people who have good days and bad days. Our lives are radically ordinary and unexciting. That means they're the kind of lives God gets excited about. While the world worships beauty and power and wealth, God hides his glory in the simple, the mundane, the foolish, working in unawesome people, things, and places.

Story
Journeys that begin in brokenness rarely follow a straight road to healing. There are twists and turns - and setbacks - on the path of repentance. Night Driving tells the story of a pastor and seminary professor whose moral failures destroyed his marriage and career, left his life in ruins, and sent him spiraling into a decade-long struggle against God. Forced to fight the demons of his past in the cab of the semi-truck he drove at night through the Texas oil fields, Chad Bird slowly began to limp toward grace and healing.

Story
Modern culture is increasingly outspoken against a biblical understanding of what it means to be a woman. Even some Christians, swayed by the LGBTQ+ movement, have rejected God’s word on issues of sexuality and gender in favor of popular opinion. In light of these pressures, it’s more important than ever to help women see the truth about who God created them to be. In this powerful book, Rosaria Butterfield uses Scripture to confront 5 common lies about sexuality, faith, feminism, gender roles, and modesty often promoted in our secular culture today.

Forgiving anyone in a meaningful way is one of the hardest things a person has to do. If you do not, resentment and vengeance begin to consume you. Some instruction is timeless. Regardless of the age in which we live, certain instruction carries no expiration on its relevance. Pastor, author, and leadership consultant Larry Osborne has discovered this to be the case with instruction on how to be a good leader. The best, most practical advice comes from the Bible, and in particular, 1 Peter 5:1-4. It's in this short passage where leaders are exhorted to shepherd the flock among them.

Story
You live in a dystopia. Every part of historical human existence in our world has been turned on its head. The world we live in is an inversion of what God created you to live in. All that is good is treated as though it were repugnant. All that is beautiful is treated as though it were repulsive. And the truth is forbidden while the most outrageous lies are exalted. This world did not become like this by accident or by inexorable forces of history. This world was engineered to be this way. It was designed to take the life your ancestors had and tear it apart.

Story
In this comprehensive exposition, a leading New Testament scholar explores the unfolding theological unity of the entire Bible from the vantage point of the New Testament. G. K. Beale, coeditor of the award-winning Commentary on the New Testament Use of the Old Testament, examines how the New Testament storyline relates to and develops the Old Testament storyline. Beale argues that every major concept of the New Testament is a development of a concept from the Old and is to be understood as a facet of the inauguration of the latter-day new creation and kingdom.

How do Christians grow? Few question the call of the Bible to grow in godliness, but the answer to exactly how this happens is often elusive. In this audiobook, Dane Ortlund points believers to Christ, making the case that sanctification does not happen by doing more or becoming better, but by going deeper into the wondrous gospel truths that washed over them when they were first united to him.

King's Cross is Timothy Keller's revelatory look at the life of Christ as told in the Gospel of Mark. There have been many biographies of Jesus, but few will be as anticipated as this one by Keller, the man Newsweek calls "a C. S. Lewis for the 21st century". In it, Keller shows how the story of Jesus is at once cosmic, historical, and personal, calling each of us to look anew at our relationship with God.

You are being hunted. Like a seasoned angler, our enemy opens his tackle box and selects the lure most likely to attract his intended prey - usually the one you and I are least likely to consider harmful. Each lie we bite on causes us to feel pain, lose or injure relationships, and miss out on the abundant life God wants us to have. Lies Men Believe exposes the lies men most commonly believe and shows you how to combat those lies with the truth.

Evangelism and missions are parts of the Christian life often accompanied by fears, insecurities, and cultural pressures. In this addition to the Union series, Daniel Hames and Michael Reeves argue that an individual's relationship with God influences their evangelism and missions more than anything else. Scripture clearly shows that a believer's responsibility is to make God known in the world, but this cannot be done without first knowing and enjoying God.

Fear is one of the strongest human emotions — and one that often baffles Christians. In the Bible the picture can seem equally confusing: Is fear a good thing or a bad thing? And what does it mean to “fear the Lord”? In this audiobook, Michael Reeves clears the clouds of confusion and shows that the fear of the Lord is not a negative thing at all, but an intensely delighted wondering at God, our creator and redeemer.

Refreshing, simple, and profound
Something about this book makes me think it’s one of the most profound books I’ve read on Christianity in a long time. Perhaps it’s the timeliness of it? It’s an analysis of our modern culture and the secular values that are creeping in and polluting our churches. So it’s a book that tries to take us back to the original church in Acts and Jesus’s true teachings which are often very counterintuitive to our modern culture. The book does all this without being “preachy” or scolding as we’re all guilty of succumbing to the temptation of modern culture. It’s an eye opener that the author is journeying on along with the reader. Well written and perfect message for our time. Also it transcended denominations successfully- it felt both progressive and conservative at the same time. Great book!

This book changed my life.
Are you worried about failing? Are you anxious of becoming less than what you aspired to be? Does the notion of settling for something other that what you’ve planned and plotted for your life could potentially be, frighten you?
Good. That’s where God wants you to be.
This book speaks of the unabashed failures each of us has or will experience in our everyday lives. The lyric, “I am weak, and He is strong” is a sore understatement as you turn these pages. This book is for the workaholic overachiever, the devoted private school soccer mom, the lone-ranger Christian, the mega-church congregate. This book is for everyone on the margins and all of those in between.
This book made me reevaluate my perceptions on how Jesus views and interacts with his beloved. Christ is waiting on the sidelines of our lives. He is anticipating us to swan dive in our self-righteousness, and belly flop as our flesh takes a beating.
And when that happens, he is waiting for us to call on him. His undying love will always be there to nurture us from the depths of our despair and bring us back to what really matters, Him.
Once you start this book you will not put it down.

Even though these are biblical principles we have read in our bibles & heard from wise faithful men/women of the Christian faith, we still lie to ourselves & live quite differently in reality. This book helps us see in between the cracks of our incorrect beliefs, whether they are masked by good looking self-righteous behavior (still sin) or straight up sin we hide yet know is killing us. Chad Bird invites the body of Christ to faithfully hold each other up and be “fully known” by the community of Christ. This will bring redemption through the grace of God where brokenness is simply the way we are & we can stop living in a hidden state of shame.
