About this listen
This retreat program will inspire and move you.
The Gospel of Mark portrays Christ in action. Now, A Retreat with the Gospel of Mark invites you into active contemplation. This is a perfect program to enjoy alone or with others.
Combining prayerful reflection, careful biblical scholarship, and an engaging presentation style, each conference was studio-recorded by Fr. Felix Just, SJ, one of Now You Know Media's most beloved presenters and an outstanding biblical retreat leader.
Mark's Gospel presents a distinctive portrait of Jesus, emphasizing how Jesus is both the powerful Son of God and the suffering Son of Man. The Markan Jesus directly asks his disciples, "Who do you say that I am?" Reflecting on how you answer this question yourself will help you to grow ever more faithful in your own attempts to follow Jesus in your own life.
This audio retreat program combines an insightful examination of Mark's Gospel with three methods of biblical prayer - reflective meditation, imaginative contemplation, and centering prayer - to help you grow in your relationship with Jesus.
You can use this program to make your own spiritual retreat for individual prayer and reflection or in small-group settings with opportunities for communal prayer and sharing. If you wish to grow closer to Jesus by spending some prayerful time with the sacred Scriptures, you will cherish this series.

Story
The four Gospels are foundational to Christianity. Yet Christian readers are often puzzled by the differences between the Gospels, preferring to harmonize the four into a single narrative. Now, this 24-part lecture course invites you to understand each Gospel's distinctive message. Along the way, you will examine theories about how the three Synoptic Gospels are related. You will also learn why the evangelists are symbolized by four living creatures: the man or angel, the lion, the ox, and the eagle.

No other institution, except possibly the papacy, has more greatly influenced the church and the larger history of the Western world than the ecumenical council. Most of us, however, know little about it. This course is designed to take you through the fascinating history of the ecumenical (church-wide) council, from its first appearance in Nicaea (325) through Vatican Council II (1962-1965). This 12-part audio series explores the deep issues of faith and the sometimes curious issues of clerical behavior with which the councils dealt.

Through this special 18-lecture course, explore a powerful four-fold ancient pattern found throughout life, Christian worship, and many revered spiritual exercises. This pattern appears to underlie the choice of four Gospels and their sequencing into the three-year Sunday reading cycles. The four Gospels, when read through this lens, move beyond separate accounts of Jesus to become a seamless spiritual guide for daily life.

Spiritually edifying
Among the many Learn25 bible and retreat presenters, Fr. Just is my favorite. He combines deep knowledge of the New Testament with a rock-solid faith and a love for teaching. Unlike his 36-lecture New Testament course, this is a spiritual retreat. Thus, he offers up Mark's Gospel and its portrait of Jesus as a model and basis for prayer and spiritual renewal. If you expecting a purely educational course, I suggest you turn to his New Testament survey course. But if you are looking for something spiritually rich to incorporate into your drive or exercise time, I highly recommend this series.

False Advertising
You will sometimes hear the narrator say things like "This audiobook, exclusively available from Audible, includes a written guide." But, this is false. While many Audible books (including others from Felix Just) do have written guides, I believe that Audible should not be falsely advertising like this.
