About this listen

Who hasn't dreamed of running away to a more exciting life? Toby Tyler is one boy who did just that, spending 10 weeks working for the circus as it toured New England in the 1870s. But was this great adventure everything he dreamed it would be? Toby Tyler or, Ten Weeks with a Circus is a classic story beloved by generation after generation of children. Author James Otis Kaler actually traveled with the Phineas T. Barnum Circus as a young reporter, and he used his firsthand knowledge to acquaint children with the behind-the-scenes details of what the circus is really like, while introducing the unforgettable character of Toby Tyler.(P)1997 Audio Bookshelf Classics Literature & Fiction

The narrator’s voice is extremely muffled and hard to understand. It’s disappointing because this is a good book.

Really poor audio quality

I have seen the Disney movie and didn't know there was a book about Toby Tyler, till someone told me about it. Found this audio book and picked it up to listen to while I commute to and from work. Its a short book only about 4.5 hrs long. It is a morality tale about not running away from home and that staying home is good for you.

Okay so what really sucks about this recording is that it sounds like it eas recorded over a telephone or straight from another recording. Its very muffled, at times the narrator's voice disappears into some background noise in the recording. There appears to be no attempt by the engineers to have any sound leveling or anything to make the recording sound like a normal recording should. Which is an utter shame.

Interesting book. Recording of narrator sucks
