About this listen
To Suffer, to Endure, to Survive tells the story of how a young girl suffered abuse throughout her childhood. She endured mental and physical abuse at the hands of her mother. The only thing she wanted was the unconditional love her mother gave to her siblings. What she received instead was constant beatings and cruel insults that sometimes made her want to give up hope. Linda pushed through life, from adolescence to adulthood, attempting to win her mother's love. Along the way, she experienced heartache and disappointment from the men in her life that she trusted to protect and love her. Through it all, Linda survived and became a loving mother, grandmother, and wife, despite fighting battles that would have broken the best of us. She is a SURVIVOR!

Tiffany can't avoid being funny: it's just who she is. But The Last Black Unicorn is so much more than a side-splittingly hilarious collection of essays - it's a memoir of the struggles of one woman who came from nothing and nowhere. A woman who was able to achieve her dreams by reveling in her pain and awkwardness, showing the world who she really is, and inspiring others through the power of laughter.

Story
Two victims of the infamous Cleveland kidnapper share the story of their abductions, their decade in captivity, and their final, dramatic rescue. On May 6, 2013, Amanda Berry made headlines around the world when she fled a Cleveland area home and called 911, saying: “Help me, I’m Amanda Berry...I’ve been kidnapped, and I’ve been missing for 10 years". A horrifying story rapidly unfolded. Ariel Castro, a local school bus driver, had separately lured Berry, Gina DeJesus, and Michelle Knight to his home, where he kept them chained in the basement.

A dangerous and harrowing encounter at a local gift shop when he was eleven years old left Jesse with a deadly secret. Mike Epps is one of America’s favorite and funniest people, but the path to fame was paved with opportunities to mess it up. And mess it up he did. Growing up in “Naptown” - what people who live there really call rough-around-the-edges Indianapolis - Epps was drawn to a life of crime, but as he quickly discovered, stealing and dealing didn’t really fit his sweet sensibilities. Not to mention he wasn’t very good at it - take, for example, the day he had to call the cops on himself when a dog wouldn’t let him leave a house he was burgling.

Linda Scarpa had the best toys, the nicest clothes, and a close-knit family. Yet her childhood was far from idyllic. Classmates avoided her; boys wouldn't date her. Eventually she learned why: They were afraid of her father. A made man in the Colombo crime family, Gregory Scarpa, Sr., was a stone-cold killer nicknamed the "Grim Reaper." Unlike most tight-lipped mobsters, Scarpa talked business - and murder - in front of his kids.

How strong the main character despite every trial & tribulation that came across her path.
I may be a little bias, because this is my aunt, but i’m still going to be honest. This book is a 12/10, would definitely recommend to a friend. You would things would get better for Linda, but it just kept hitting her. God don’t play about her at all. She made it through everything ten times stronger. I’ve known her my entire life & had i not read her book, i would have never known what she had been through. I’m immensely proud of the woman she has become.
