About this listen
Follow the path. Fight the monsters. Find the king.
On the heels of a frightening encounter with her shady boss, single mom, Sophie Tanner, flees into the woods and stumbles upon a red, freestanding door. Hunted by vicious dogs and security guards, she plunges into the mist beyond the open door where the mysterious land of Trell awaits.
After nearly drowning in a watery trench, Sophie meets Riler and her motley crew of mercenaries and must rely on them if she hopes to return home to her young son. But only one holds the key home—the Mountain King.
The journey is long, fraught with towering trolls, goblin sirens, and labyrinths, and when a dark entity takes a romantic interest in her, Sophie realizes she’s in more danger than she thought. Otherworldly dreams plague her as her shadowed past stirs to life. Her sense of self begins to slip away, and it seems a handsome fae lord has all the answers, but Sophie will do anything to get home to her son. Even if it means battling her deepest—and possibly inhuman—fears.

Romantic portal fantasy
This was the first indie book I’ve ever read, and I ended up loving it! We jump straight into the action when Sophie escapes a harrowing situation and finds herself in a fantasy world (literally!) we’ve got multiple love interests, a band of loveable scallywags (but can they be trusted?) and an FMC whose past is so mysterious she hasn’t even uncovered many of her own secrets.
I loved the narration at 1.5 speed but found the regular speed extremely odd. Speed it up a bit and enjoy!
