About this listen

Eighteen-year-old Brenna Whit is entering college as a freshman and starting to meet new people, but she hides a dark secret. Because of an accident that happened three years ago, her spirit wanders the Fade whenever she falls asleep. It's something she wants to keep hidden from the world, but when she sees someone watching her in spirit form, she fears the secret's out.

With new friends, possibly new enemies, a new school, and a new crush, Brenna has too much to worry about for just her freshman year of college.

I was really grabbed by the story from the first chapter despite the plot being a slow roll. Much of the first half is focused on character over story, but the writing and characters were so engaging that I didn’t mind waiting for “plot.”

If I have one complaint, it’s the performance, which at times is choppy in its diction and includes a number of mispronunciations, such as the reader being incapable of properly pronouncing envelope.

However, that didn’t break my interest in the story or characters. There is a realism that anchors the fantasy of the spirit world interactions. I hope the rest of the series gets an audio version since I don’t have a lot of time to read for myself and really want to see what comes next.

Great Book, Good Performance

Most books waste a lot of time with the setup before getting to the meat of the story. Sarah Lampkin wastes no time with the setup it's up front and gives away nothing. You have no idea where this story is going to go! the brilliant lead-in of the setup is an appetite for the imagination. Because this story could go anyway!

Without giving away too much the main character Brenna although unique, she is actually all of us. Her sarcasm it's just honesty we all wish to actually have. The story is a constant progression that wastes no time and yet keeps you riveted for the next move.

Do not be fooled by the genre label of "teen" because this is clearly a story for everyone. To Dream Is To Die is full of characters that never offer dull dialogue or dry story lines. Its completely binge worthy and addicting with every line. I eagerly await the next book in the series.

Amazing book for anyone who loves a good story!

It's a busy storyline, without being cluttered. I, for one, found it incredibly easy to stay engaged through the entirety. Definitely a keeper.
