About this listen
For Ages 8 and Up
©1993 Richard Young and Judy Dockrey Young (P)1993 August House Publishing, Inc.Editorial reviews
Richard Young and his wife, Judy Dockrey Young, are professional storytellers who have published nine books as well as numerous recordings. Listening to these 14 ghost stories from the Southeast, one understands what vocal characteristics have made the couple so successful in their craft. Their voices effortlessly embody accents and moods, depending on the content of each story. The Youngs can be funny and spooky, dramatic and menacing. The couple tours the Midwest every year, visiting schools and storytelling festivals, consistently delivering narrative joy to enraptured children. In this performance of There's No Such Thing as Ghosts, it is easy to be enthralled by headless pirates, ghost ships, and mysterious Virginia dogs.

Mostly just short spooky bed time stories
Not much too talk about here although the final story was the most terrifying. Not a bad listen it is completely made up of short stories.

Old-fashioned Children’s Stories
They’re children’s stories, and not very modern ones, but I like them. I like the lilting storytelling, and the morals hidden in some of the stories. They’re not terribly scary, but they do offer a glimpse at times past, and the possibility of an afterlife. I do get the sense that this was created for a very young crowd, and with the school board in mind. They should have allowed the scare factor to climb a little higher.

For lore junkies
These are told in a very campfire and oral tradition style. They're a fun listen.

Poor narration
Sounded like my third grade teacher at story time. I just couldn’t take the narration, nor any of the stories seriously. Not worth my time. I read 3 - 4 books a week on Audible. This was an especially poor one. I hope this is helpful.
