About this listen

From Weird Darkness Publishing, and author S.R. Roanoke, comes The Witch Trials: a Summer of Wolves & Season of the Witch

When Salem Roanoke took a job near his family's new home as a hired hand in the Texas Hill Country, he anticipated learning the rancher's trade. A series of strange events, shocking murders, and unholy revelations divert him down another path. This terrifying trajectory puts him directly into the middle of a struggle between monsters, magic and men. Armed and backed by a militia of ranchers, Salem attempts to combat the creeping tide of evil that threatens to engulf his new home and destroy the people most important to him. Will Salem manage to save his home or have his actions condemned everyone he hoped to save.

I have been a fan of the first part since I first encountered it as a creepypasta. It stands as my absolute favorite werewolf story and one of my favorite short stories.

But the second part just doesn't measure up. The explanations add little and the sudden high amount of Catholic lore does not do it any favors. It tries to do too much in too little time and the ending is very underwhelming, seemingly going for shock value above anything else.

Still the overall moment to moment writing is still good and the first few hours is still as magical as I remember it. The narrator is also as stellar as he was when he did the first part on his podcast.

Overall I recommend you find A Summer of Wolves and read/listen to that and let it be that. The full story is unfortunately not really worth it even if competently written and well narrated.
