About this listen
The White Dragon: Genesis is the story of the very beginning of an apocalyptic event as seen through the eyes of an 18-year-old girl. Nothing could have prepared her for what is about to happen and she has to face some seriously tough stuff before the end. During the 36 hours of terror that turn Kasey Byrne's life upside down and strip her of everything dear to her, something inside her awakens. It is gift and curse alike for it can destroy her or turn her into the most powerful weapon against the evil that has reached the shores of our world.

Story
In a steel-and-lead-encased bunker 20 feet below the basement level of his house, a soldier waits for his final orders. On the surface, a plague ravages the planet, infecting over 90% of the populace. The bacterium burrows through the brain, destroying all signs of humanity and leaving behind little more than base, prehistoric instincts. The infected turn into hyper-aggressive predators, with an insatiable desire to kill and feed. Someday soon, the soldier will have to open the hatch to his bunker, and step out into this new wasteland, to complete his mission....

Everyone’s lives have become an endless list of don’ts: don’t water the lawn, don’t fill up your pool, don’t take long showers. Until the taps run dry. Suddenly, Alyssa’s quiet suburban street spirals into a warzone of desperation; neighbors and families turned against each other on the hunt for water. And when her parents don’t return and her life - and the life of her brother - is threatened, Alyssa has to make impossible choices if she’s going to survive.

When a plane crashed in the quaint town of Castor, it unleashed a virus that turned everyone into hissing, blood-thirsty, undead monsters. Monsters that could transmit their plague in seconds, that could run as fast as dogs, and that could fuse themselves together to create massive mutated beasts. Four teens - Connor, Seth, Amanita, and Nicole - fought for their lives to secure vital data from the plane wreckage, some of them paying the ultimate sacrifice. Now they need to get to San Diego with their secret, but the plague is spreading too fast.

Wealthy philanthropist Arthur Wells, in need of a family getaway with his wife, Joan, and his daughter, Emma, arranges a trip to Romania. His intention is to explore an ancient cave system he read about, located in Constanta, on the Black Sea coast. The name of the cave, unearthed in 1986, is Pestera Movile. It has been sealed from the light of day for over five-and-a-half million years, preserved beneath more than 20 meters of clay. In this harsh, chemosynthetic environment, Arthur stumbles across something he hopes will advance medical science.

Story
Refuge, New Hampshire, is a small town. The kind found on postcards. Their biggest concern is the rowdy summertime revelers making their way up from Massachusetts and New York. And with most of the town's residents in neighboring Ashland, for the Fourth of July fireworks show, Refuge is quieter than usual. That is, until the Baptist church's bell starts ringing - on its own. The bell chimes faster and faster, reaching a frenetic pace, as though rung by the Devil himself. But the bell is just the beginning.

Will have to read it.
I will have to actually read the book, as the narration was not at all good. The narrator seemed to be reading in a bathroom and had little passion for the reading. The story seemed like a good one, but I think it got lost in translation from printed words to voice.

Turns our world on is ear
Kasey Byrne's loves the ocean, even from a young age she couldn't resist it's pull, even if it was just to play in the sand and watch the sun come up, until the one morning a strange man gives her a necklace with a amulet. Fast forward several years to Kasey's 18th birthday, when everything should be perfect, but goes wrong. Something changes in Kasey, but she is not sure if it is good or bad yet.
Stefan Bolz took a very ordinary world we live in and very literally turned it on its ear, in this very exciting, action packed book. His way with words lets you see everything in your mind so your not missing a thing. If you had the audio like I did you also had narrator Hank Garner using his voice to also help paint that picture for you in which he did a great job. I can't wait for The White Dragon 02: Crucible to come out on audible as well so I can find out what happens to our ragtag little group.

Amazingly quick paced story
I really loved this story when it first came out in 2014 and after reading it I became a huge fan of Herr Bolz!
It's an incredibly quick pace, exciting and on the other side a tender story of a young heroine tough survival during the first hours and days of a terrible apocalyptic event. Tremendous reading indeed!!
Hank's performance is really good, emotional and fun when needed.
But maybe something happened during the conversion to a compatible Audible file, because the quality isn't always the best. Occasionally, it's a bit like when a phone has interference or as if the room echoes?!
Could this be checked?

Wonderfully Weird
Any additional comments?
This was a uniquely weird and wonderful book.As a huge fan of the Wyrd universe books written by multiple authors i couldn't wait to read this story. The author creates interesting characters and a frightening world they live in.The characters struggle to survive and protect those they care for against unimaginable evil is well written. The narrator has a pleasant voice and portrayed the story well. I purchased the ebook, but received a copy of the audiobook from the author in exchange for an honest review.
