About this listen
Detective James Morgan believes in a different set of rules—for the cops.
James Morgan leads by example as the senior detective on the Spokane Police Department’s Criminal Task Force. His work ethic has earned him respect from other officers, suspicion from the administration, and a healthy fear from the criminals he contacts. It’s precisely the way Morgan likes it.
When a southern California gang moves into eastern Washington, they bring a reputation of terror and intimidation. Morgan’s team is assigned to slow their expansion, and he will not let anything detour him from that goal—even if it means he needs to bend the law in the process.
The Value in Our Lies is the fifth book in the 509 Crime Stories, a series of novels set in Eastern Washington with revolving lead characters. If you like hard-hitting police procedurals with compelling personalities, download this book today.

I love this series -so many threads
This book revolves around Morgan, Nayla and the Criminal Task Force though characters from previous books are pulled in as well. I enjoy the intricacies of these books -several unrelated or sometimes seemingly unrelated story lines woven into a complicated, but well written mystery. I can't put these down once I start. I have to know how each piece relates to the next and how it will be resolved.
I hate Morgan's character, but I don't think you're supposed to like him. I love Nayla's character and I keep waiting for her to turn on him. Some day, he will push it too far and I keep waiting, but he slithers out of pit after pit. The characters in the story are so well written you have to see what happens next.
Morgan solves crimes by knowing the law, understanding criminals because he is as bad as they are and he knows how to use all of that knowledge to his benefit. He is the detective you are afraid you will get on your case and not any better as a person. He's dirty, manipulative, cruel and as twisted as the people he goes after, but the story is so intriguing and complicated that I had to know how it ends. I kept listening, waiting for him to get killed or turned in, but he gets results, his team is loyal and he's able to hide his crimes so the brass doesn't examine him too closely.
Truly a great bit of complicated, difficult writing when you feel you are seeing the real world of crime on both sides, to dislike the main character and still be glad he takes out a crime gang cell in a very twisty way.
Damon Abdallah is amazing -great voices, clear, easy to follow and makes you feel the characters' feelings.
