About this listen
Elena Standish investigates the murder of a fellow MI6 agent near the country estate of one of England's most influential families in this gripping mystery from New York Times bestselling author Anne Perry.
Not far from the sprawling grounds of Wyndham Hall, longtime MI6 agent John Repton's body is found with a bullet hole through the heart. The corpse's proximity to the estate sends ripples of concern through the intelligence community: Repton was killed while surveilling the members of a household with alleged ties to fascists—who threaten the security of the country as Hitler's control spreads across Europe. Elena Standish is assigned the case since she has a connection to the Wyndham family; Lady Wyndham's brother is courting Elena's older sister Margot.
Elena secures an invitation to Wyndham Hall for herself and a "date,"—her colleague James Allenby. To covertly investigate Repton's murder, the pair must uncover the true loyalties of the people in the house while protecting Margot from her beau's potentially dangerous relatives. But Elena is torn, for her sister has finally found happiness after years of heartbreak and sorrow, and having to take down the Wyndhams would destroy her new relationship.
As Elena and Allenby dig deeper into the Wyndham family's nefarious connections, Margot grows suspicious. Can Elena reconcile her political and professional obligations with her loyalty and love for her sister? Will Elena and Allenby get to the bottom of their colleague's murder? In The Traitor Among Us, Anne Perry raises the stakes—for Elena, MI6, and for Britain's future.

Anne Perry the best
Anne Perry never fails to bring a wonderful story full of complex characters functioning light & dark shadows. I’ve really loved this newer Elena Standish series.

Enjoyable as Aways
Unfortunately this is the last book in this series. I will miss knowing how these characters would have developed and the lives and adventures they would have lived.

Excellent read
Great story. Anne Perry always builds her characters so carefully. Sad that there will be no more Elena Standish or Daniel Pitt stories.

As someone else said...
I will miss Anne Perry. I have enjoyed this series and feel like it was just getting started. It was a bit different from all of her others, and addresses a time in England that I think is unknown to a lot of Americans - that time when Hitler was building strength and consolidating control of Germany and it looked to a lot of the world like he was doing a good thing. Except for a lot of the reprehensible stuff that was going on - like antisemitism that was becoming more and more extreme - leading to camps like Dachau.
And a lot of the Brits never wanted to see another war, so got behind the "appeasement" group - and would eventually agree to do anything to keep from being involved in another war - even if it meant making deals with Hitler. And the other side - those who wanted to stand up to Hitler and fight if he started a war - were considered "war-mongers." And it is in the side of the war-mongers that we find Elena and her grandfather striving to stop a war but also stop the appeasement plans of many of the powers-that-be.
This entry also addresses the multitude of women who were left without husbands after the Great War - not because they lost them in the war, but because so many men were killed in the war (and the subsequent flu pandemic) that there were only a fraction of men left alive to return to all the women left at home. In another book I read, those women were referred to as “superfluous women”!
Good story; excellent narration.

I miss Anne Perry
I finish this book knowing, save for one more Christmas novella, knowing there will be no more. She has been my favorite author for 30 years. This series would have been so fun to follow.

The twists and turns in the story.
I like the descriptions of the people and the conversations that subtly lead to the solutions. The author really knows the history of the times and brings it alive.

How I will miss Anne Perry!
I have been listening to Anne Perry for years and am so sad that she has died. We will never hear the next chapter of Elena Standish or of Daniel Pitt. It would be wonderful if another author would take over the stories but don't know if that will happen. Thanks for all the great listens!
