About this listen
A troubled past.
A dying guardian.
The fate of a fantasy realm rests in the hands of a mortal girl.
Laura used to believe in fairy tales and true love. Not after her mom took her own life; the bitter end to a once promising romance. But the arrival of a mysterious guardian proves the fairy tale world does exists, and it needs her help to stop the unholy forces that seek to destroy it. As Laura journeys to find the way home across strange kingdoms of mechanical soldiers, a mad king, a fairy tale prince and more, she soon learns of the mysterious connections between her and the fantasy realm. To survive it, she must face her deepest fears and secrets she never wants to unveil.
The Torn Fairy is a YA action/adventure fantasy/romance, a romantic Alice in Wonderland coupled with the deep themes of A Monster Calls. Fans of The Nutcracker and the Four Realms will also fall in love with the parallel world of Illiros and its magic.

Story
Mating is a matter of politics for Night, not the heart. To prevent a forced union that will plunge the Lunar Court into war, he must find and bond his true mate. When he lays eyes on Rain, he knows the shy forest witch is the bond mate he's been searching for. Unprepared for the intensity of his attraction, Night makes an offer that would keep his priorities straight and his court safe: a marriage of convenience. Any eligible woman—mortal and immortal alike—would leap at the chance to become the powerful duke's bride. But Rain isn't interested.

Unique Fantasy
This was a unique,YA fantasy. It took me awhile to get into the story, however I did finally get into it and did find it interesting. I really liked Mal’s character but couldn’t quite connect with Laura right away. I also kept wanting to shake her and tell her to stop being so belligerent throughout the book. I thought the whole book was quite unique and imaginative though and understood how Laura needed to make this journey. I loved how the author ended the book and also appreciated the epilogue. Ivy Starlight did a wonderful job with the narration. She brought the characters to life and made the story entertaining.

Entertaining
This story to me had elements of my childhood in it. Remnants of stories that were familiar yet not. The story was interesting but I don’t think I could get over the familiarity. The narration had issues with sound quality, not much but enough I took notice. For someone else this may be one of their favorite books and I’m glad for them because it has its honorable mentions.

good, but audio needed editing
Sentences were repeated, like the reader read them with different tones, and the extra versions were not removed. So audio needed to edit. Overall story was ok. The end felt rushed and not a planned ending from the start.

1 dimensional story & whiny, childish voice
Story was 1 dimensional & jumped from point to point. It was missing the bridging between the points.
The narrator used a whiny, child like voice for the main character. Got old quick.

Magical Retelling
This was a wonderful book that somewhat reminded me of Alice in Wonderland. Laura once believed in fairytales, love, and magic, but all of that shattered when her mother took her own life. Humans have stopped believing in true love, the land of Illiros is dying, and it’s up to Laura to save it. The world building of Illiros was magical and it felt like I was transported there and along for the ride. Mal and Laura’s relationship grew throughout this story and it was the key to everything. I really enjoyed this journey and watching Laura learn about herself, how to love who she is, and what unconditional love is.
Ivy did an amazing job with this narration! I liked that she did different voices for each character and the flawless flow between them. She really brought Laura and Mal to life in this performance with how much emotion she used.
