Sweet Romance

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

In general the story was sweet. I found Emily too wishy-washy for me. The dialogue for Tommy (being 6 years of age) was too old sometimes.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

Work on breathing technique. Too many loud gasps of air. See Pat Fraley's YouTube video on breathing technique. The only other area would be to increase pauses between sections to indicate a change in scene.

Other than the breathing and pauses, Ms. Trueblood is wonderfully articulate and I liked her narration and storytelling.

Good Clean Book

Would you consider the audio edition of The Teacher's Rescue: A Story of the 1925 Tri-State Tornado to be better than the print version?

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the narrator in exchange for an honest review. This book couldn't be better in print copy because the narrator uses animated voices making it easy to identify each character.

What other book might you compare The Teacher's Rescue: A Story of the 1925 Tri-State Tornado to and why?

I haven't listened to any other books about this specific tornado.

Which scene was your favorite?

My favorite scene is just after the tornado moves on and everyone scatters to account for their loved ones in the wreckage that is left of their community.

The Teacher's Rescue

Nice historical fiction set around the 1925 tri-states tornado. The towns school teacher teams with town doctor to take care of survivors, oh all while looking out for her grandma (does she have dementia or not?) and (his 6 year old mis-behaving son.)

Into town blow all kinds of people including a past fiance and rich investors trying to buy up land cheap. All of these people try to make a play for either the teacher or the doctor. Who winds up with who, read it and find out. It was an enjoyable novel.

Unaware This Was A Real Event Until The End-Wow!

Emma has moved to a new town for three reasons, 1. Her former fiancée has embarrassed, so she cannot go out in public. 2. To take care of her senile grandmother who has a tendency to wander off at a moments notice. 3.To earn a living as a schoolteacher

On her first day of school she passes by a very handsome man sweeping off the area in front of his business, Emma assumes that he is the doctor that his "shingle" advertises. He is very handsome and they had a bit of a flirtation.

She gets to school and runs through the roll call. Almost immediately, she sees a trouble making redhead in the front row she calls off the name Tommy Baxter. He giggles and she realizes that she is right, he is the son of the doctor she flirted with on her way through town. She makes a note not to do that again - not wanting to be caught up in another scandal.

Throughout the day Tommy has bouts of bad behavior. She keeps him in at recess and with exasperation decides she needs to speak with his parents about the bad behavior.

When she speaks to Dr. Jesse Baxter, she finds that he is a widower. Emma realizes that Tommy's naughtiness is just a cry for her attention.

This book recounts a horrible event (in a fictitious manner.) There is charm in the innocence of the flirtation. The senile grandmother is a hoot and the empowering story of a pathway from devastation forward is one of resilience.

Margo Trueblood is a wonderful performer. Her ability to flow between children, adults and the elderly is flawlessly. Great job

Disappointing

This one was disappointing to me. It should have been a quick easy fun read. Instead the story line was lacking to me. Being from tornado country NO one in real life calls a tornado a twister.

I was given a free audio version of this book in exchange for an honest review. I was disappointed in it.

Sweet clean romance

This was a sweet clean read which was very entertaining. I loved how the author added true fact into the story. This story was very believable with wonderful characters. I really loved grandma she was a truly delightful mess. Jesse's son kept me laughing at the little things he got into. Jesse and Emma have a slow start as they help bring the town back together they find they have feelings for each other. Emma heart breaks for Jesse's son who is still dealing with death as he pokes around dead animals wondering if they can catch something from them that will kill them. He doesn't always make the best choices but always has Emma and Jesse's love to point him in the right direction. Jesse doesn't have any trouble keeping his foot in his mouth and Emma's feeling will get hurt a few times. She must might be the one to teach not only Jesse but his son a few lessons in life that they both need.

I thought Margo Trueblood did a good job of narration. Her voice was clean, her tones even, you had no trouble understanding what each character was feeling. She brought the book to life down to how the tornado came and throw building all over the place. Between the author and narrator this was an easy picture to see. I heard no breaks in the audio or background noises. It did take me a few minutes to get into this narrators voice but once I got use to it I found I enjoyed the story greatly. You have no trouble knowing who is talking or what emotion each was feeling. I would enjoy listening to this narrator again.

I thought the author gave wonderful characters that you will come to like and some you might not. I felt this was mostly close to how it would have been back in 1925. There are times your heart goes out to these people and some people you wish would hop on the first train out of town. I loved how the people came together to rebuild the town. I would have liked to have known what happen to the man and sister who came to town to buy up all the land. I am not sure the cover is right for this story. It doesn't call out an said read me. You will be surprised once you pick up this story to read/listen to it is very entertaining. For me I think it is better than the book could be. I could relate to most of the characters. The grandmother is s dear and very surprising woman. This is a cute sweet read about finding new love, and starting over again.

wonderful christian book

during horrible tornado and the aftermath of rebuilding the town, the dr and schoolteacher fall in love....meanwhile the school teacher's mother has found love herself....a little boy is also in the mix. another wonderful book by this author. and no illicit sex. I highly recommend this book!!

Interesting and sweet story

Not knowing about the 1925 Tornado, this book was quite interesting. Also, as a retired teacher myself, I could relate with the teacher and some of her problems, even though the settings are many years apart. I would hope that I would have reacted to the tornado and its aftermath the way she did. Cynthia Hickey did a good job relaying some of the history in a sweet romantic story. Margo Trueblood did a good job narrating.
