About this listen
This is the story of a terrifying disease making a u-turn on a dead-end road.
ALS is a deadly disease that didn't want to let go of me. I went from hope to planning my own death as a way of escaping this demon.
My journey is a view into the life of a person who needs 24-hour care, never any privacy. I was given 18 months to get my affairs in order.
That lead me to seeking a higher power than the doctors. I have never witnessed an energy healing until it happened to me.
This book is my call to each of you and your family who are challenged by ALS. My frame of mind was my only power.
My recovery was a miracle to me.
My wife, Mona, says it was a combination all the puzzle pieces I brought into play.
You be the judge!

Story
Marty, age 57, was given a preliminary diagnosis of ALS by his family doctor. Seven weeks later, the diagnosis was confirmed by a neurologist. Ten months and ten days later, Marty passed away. From day one, Alison, Marty’s spouse of over twenty-five years, kept a journal as a way to navigate the overwhelming state of her mind and soul. Soon the rawness of her words harmonized to tell the story of Marty’s diagnosis, illness, and decline. Dance Me to the End is an evocative memoir about witnessing a loved one suffer from a neurological, degenerative, and terminal disease.

Story
Throughout my life I have done things my way, and they have always worked out - as if I've had luck in my corner. All of my optimism and bravado came to a crashing halt one cold December holiday night, when after an evening out with good friends, I suffered an accident. I was beaten with a pipe and later found under a moving train, resulting in quadriplegia. Given virtually no chance to walk again, I was devastated. But I also had hope, and lots of it. A fire that exists deep within, and has since childhood, burns on no matter the circumstances. I am here for a bigger mission. What would that mission now be?

Story
As Martha Beck says in her book, “Integrity is the cure for psychological suffering. Period.” In The Way of Integrity, Beck presents a four-stage process that anyone can use to find integrity, and with it, a sense of purpose, emotional healing, and a life free of mental suffering. Much of what plagues us—people pleasing, staying in stale relationships, negative habits—all point to what happens when we are out of touch with what truly makes us feel whole.

Story
In Cured, Dr. Rediger digs down to the root causes of illness, showing how to create an environment that sets the stage for healing. He reveals the patterns behind healing and lays out the physical and mental principles associated with recovery: first, we need to physically heal our diet and our immune systems. Next, we need to mentally heal our stress response and our identities. Through rigorous research, Dr. Rediger shows that much of our physical reality is created in our minds. Our perception changes our experience, even to the point of changing our physical bodies.

Great Inspirational Reading
I loved this book! Read it in its entirety the night of my ALS diagnosis. McFinn and I share much of the same outlook on life, spirituality and ALS. His description of his ALS battle seems very similar to what I’ve been going through. It’s nice to see it through the eyes of someone who has experienced it. It’s a must read for anyone with ALS and their caregivers, family and friends.
