About this listen
Michael was in a hurry. He was scrambling up the ladder at Drake and Sweeney, a giant Washington law firm. He was a rising star, with no time to waste, no time to toss a few coins into the cups of panhandlers, no time for a conscience. But a violent encounter with a homeless man stopped him cold. Michael survived; his assailant did not. Who was this homeless man? Michael did some digging and found a dirty secret and the secret involved Drake and Sweeney.©1998 Belfry Holdings, Ltd. Grisham ’light’.
Enough for a short story not a novel. Also a bit holier-than-though… there is only one typical Grisham court episode which is good.
Michael Beck is fantastic as ever, although he exagerates the tear-squeezing voice when talking about the sadness of homelessness.
The worst though was the music suddenly appearing at ’emotional’ or ’suspenseful’ moments. Completely distracting. I laughed out loud a few times. Classical kitchy string music when relationships were talked about… bad horror film sounds when ’bad’ things happened. Cant believe who would think that enhances the story telling.
