About this listen
Halloween in North Carolina's Outer Banks becomes seriously tricky when librarian Lucy Richardson stumbles across something extra unusual in the rare books section: a dead body.
Wealthy businessman Jay Ruddle is considering donating his extensive collection of North Carolina historical documents to the Bodie Island Lighthouse Library, but the competition for the collection is fierce. Unfortunately, while the library is hosting a lecture on ghostly legends, Jay becomes one of the dearly departed in the rare books section. Now, it's up to Lucy Richardson and her fellow librarians to bone up on their detective skills and discover who is responsible for this wicked Halloween homicide.
Meanwhile, very strange things are happening at the library - haunted horses are materializing in the marsh, the lights seem to have an eerie life of their own, and the tiny crew of a model ship appears to move around when no one is watching. Is Lucy at her wit's end? Or can it be that the Bodie Island Lighthouse really is haunted?
With The Legend of Sleepy Hollow on everyone's minds and ghoulish gossip on everyone's lips, Lucy will need to separate the clues from the boos if she wants to crack this case without losing her head in The Spook in the Stacks, the delightful fourth in national best-seller Eva Gates' Lighthouse Library mysteries.

Story
Faye Longchamp has lost nearly everything, except for her quick mind and a grim determination to keep her ancestral home, Joyeuse, a moldering plantation. When the property taxes rise beyond her means, Faye sets out to save Joyeuse by digging for artifacts on her property and the surrounding national wildlife refuge and selling them on the black market. A tiny bit of that dead glory would pay a year’s taxes, and a big, valuable chunk of the past would save her home forever. But instead of potsherds and arrowheads, she uncovers a woman’s shattered skull, a Jackie Kennedy-style earring nestled against its cheek bone.

Great Start Then It Slowed Down
I had not read prior published work by Eva Gates so that I don't know if this book is the way she usually writes. There were some aspects of this story that made me wonder why she even used them, for example, the horse on the moor. Why even bring that in if you just let it remain unaddressed in the story? I may be a bit spoiled in my likes and dislikes but I really get annoyed by story elements that appear and are left to take away in my expectations for closure. I will read the first book to see if this is something she frequently does at which point I will be able to see if she is to remain on my favorite list.

I HAVE MISSED THE LIGHT HOUSE LIBRARY CREW
I ENJOYED THIS BOOK. THE CHARACTERS ARE FUN, WITHOUT BEING TOO QUIRKY. OF COURSE, LOUISE JANE AND THEODORE COME CLOSE. I ONLY GAVE THE BOOK A 4 STAR BECAUSE THE INTRODUCTION OF THE HORSE AND LIGHTS JUST SEEMED RANDOM AND WENT NOWHERE. THEY MIGHT HAVE BEEN INTERESTING, BUT WERE NOT DEVELOPED OR EXPLAINED AND DID NOT SEEM TO ADD TO, OR EVEN IMPACT, THE STORYLINE AT ALL.

This is a fun murder mystery
The Spook in the Stacks is a fun, light murder mystery. It contains mystery, suspense and a touch of humor and romance.
There are twist’s and surprises.
The Narrator, Elise Arsonsult, did a vey good job narrating. She was fairly consistent with the “voices “ and placed all the emphasis in the right places.
The author created believable characters and described the scenes very well. It was easy for the reader to connect and feel a part of the story.

this was a good fun book.
I enjoyed reading this book because it was just a fun read. Not serious or heavy, kind of cute I enjoyed it. I have to say though sometimes when a woman does the male voices in this case Theodore oh, it doesn't come across that well. I cringed every time Theodore spoke but I enjoyed it. Merry Christmas to all of you and I look forward to my next audible book

Interesting characters but a bit of a stretch
We never get an explanation for some of the spooky elements ant some of it stretches credulity. Bit there is an interesting cast of characters. I suspect some questions will only be answered in subsequent books in this series.

Cute series. ❤️
Love it, the ones before it and I’m certain I’ll love the ones after. 🥰 The series is fun and enjoyable. Only thing that bothered me in the slightest was how the narrator read periodically throughout the book. She annunciated each word instead of letting them flow. I’m not sure if she wasn’t sure of herself reading and couldn’t catch on to the story….got me. 🤷🏼♀️But Seeing it was the 4th book in the series you’d think she’d know the writing. It was a bit irritating but didn’t stop me from listening to it😉
Promise if you like cozy mysteries….you’ll love the series
