Annie Besant
About this listen
Annie Besant’s magnetic eloquence is brilliantly apparent in this volume of her writings and lectures on the spiritual life. The welfare of humanity and the world around us is our utmost concern, says Besant, and the primary tool of transformation is our own consciousness. Our inner life must change if outer conditions are to be improved. Besant illuminates the way with topics such as calmness of mind, devotion, knowledge, karma, reincarnation, and Divine Law. Quotes from poetry and the world’s scriptures provide additional inspiration.
From the Foreword: “If today we stand on the threshold of a new world order, out of conflict and violence envisioning a world of beauty and peace, then this book can awaken us to our responsibilities as creators of such a world. It can encourage us to live the kind of life, spiritually based and inwardly directed, that will ensure that harmony among peoples and among nations may prevail.”
Annie Besant (1847–1933) was president of the Theosophical Society and an outstanding orator, reformer, and author of over 300 publications.

Story
I have tried to show in this audiobook that as God is one, necessary for all of us, so religion is one, necessary and universal. Only the roads to it may differ in some respects at the beginning. As a matter of fact, it is ludicrous to say that there are two religions, when there is but one God. There may be two denominations or sects, but there is only one religion. What we now call different religions should be known as different denominations or sects under that one universal religion.

Deep down, most people think that happiness comes from having or doing something. Here, in Alan Watts’s groundbreaking third book (originally published in 1940), he offers a more challenging thesis: authentic happiness comes from embracing life as a whole in all its contradictions and paradoxes, an attitude that Watts calls the “way of acceptance.” Drawing on Eastern philosophy, Western mysticism, and analytic psychology, Watts demonstrates that happiness comes from accepting both the outer world around us and the inner world inside us,

Here is your key to a better life. James Allen's All These Things Added is a short work of immense power. This brilliant meditation reveals how to live out the Biblical precept: Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all things shall be added unto you. Allen expands this one passage into a complete philosophy of self-development and inner fulfillment. If you pursue holiness in the ordinary hours of life, he writes, you will experience untold joy and an end to personal desperation and self-doubt.
