One of Buzzfeed's 20 Most Anticipated Thrillers of 2023

"The latest twisty pageturner from the brilliant Sally Hepworth. Masterfully designed to keep readers on the edge of their seats and wanting more, The Soulmate examines love and loyalty, and how far we're willing to go for the sake of family. I devoured this book!"—Mary Kubica, New York Times bestselling author of Local Woman Missing

"[A] twisty psychological thriller... Fans of domestic suspense will be satisfied."—Publishers Weekly

Editorial Review

All in the family
I believe in family. Yes, the drama can be pretty annoying, but that’s why there’s Sally Hepworth. She knows what to do when it comes to domestic drama. Her stories satisfy my curiosity about families. They’re so rich with problems, personalities, and in Sally’s world—murder. In this thriller, we become observers of two couples: Pippa and Gabe, middle class and happy in their quaint house near a cliff in a coastal Australian town; the other, Amanda and Max, wealthy and enjoying their highfalutin lifestyle, it seems. The two couples have more in common than they need to know. But I really cared about them and their issues, such as bipolar disorder. I’ve seen that up close, but that’s no reason to hurt someone else. (How about that for a clue?) Narrators Barrie Kreinik and Jessica Douglas-Henry are terrific—their performances are addictive and dare you to pull out your earbuds. —Yvonne D., Audible Editor

What listeners say about The Soulmate

Highly rated for:

The Audiobook's Story Revolves Around A Couple Who Move Into Their Dream Home, Only To Be Haunted By A Series Of Suicides That Have Occurred There. The Narrative Alternates Between The Perspectives Of The Wife, Pippa, And A Woman Named Amanda, Revealing Their Intertwined Pasts And The Secrets They Harbor. While Many Praised The Engaging Plot, Unexpected Twists, And Compelling Storyline, Others Found The Pacing Slow, The Ending Predictable, And Some Events Unrealistic. The Book Explores Themes Of Mental Illness, Family Secrets, Toxic Relationships, And Suicide Within The Context Of A Domestic Thriller. Overall, The Story Kept Readers Hooked With Its Suspenseful Narrative And Intriguing Characters, Despite Some Criticisms Regarding Underdeveloped Elements And A Confusing Timeline.

Well done!

Very good book with wonderful narration. You might be able to guess the ending but the buildup is enjoyable.

Just okay

Performance was good. I felt like it was hard at times to tell the difference if I was with Amanda or Pippa if I missed the chapter headline.

The story was boring and dull. I didn’t like how she blamed herself for everything and just accepted and almost enabled it like it was NBD.

I liked thé ended but i felt it came on a bit fast.

Enthralling

Loved narrators voice and presentation… I like the “then and now” juxtaposition for the main characters. The story draws the reader in very quickly and I wanted to find out what “happens next”!

Family Mystery

A new fan of this author. Good narration…shocking to have a deceased character’s point of view shared for both past and present events. Confusing at first especially in reference to timelines. Criminal activity wasn’t clearly defined either. Publisher’s summary provided just enough information to grab my attention, but no revealing details. So no spoilers here. Some editing would shorten the length of book as there is some repetition. Also the brief description of sexual intimacy was not necessary. The ending answers many questions that I had during the story. Seems like the ending was written first and the earlier chapters added afterwards.
