About this listen

In the desolate middle of the largest ocean on earth, two great navies approached, one bent on conclusive battle, the other lying in ambush.

Six months after Pearl Harbor, Yamamoto again crossed the Pacific with the largest and most powerful naval armada the world had ever seen, this time to finish the job. Nimitz waited for him with what he had, placed exactly where he needed it.

Both admirals depended on their fliers, some veterans of battle, others raw and unproven. Striking first meant decisive victory.

This is the story of the men who fought the Battle of Midway over three momentous days in June, 1942. Men uncertain, determined, fearful and courageous. Men under crushing pressure, desperate and hopeful. Their story is one of daring, of unfathomable loss, of survival inside rickety airplanes and burning ships. What happened off Midway is a story of reckless pride, and cold realization.

Kevin Miller's The Silver Waterfall is an unforgettable human story - a factual historic fiction account told by today's master of carrier aviation fiction honoring those who fought in one of the most pivotal naval battles in world history.

Personalized view of Midway

Like novels by Jeff Shaara this story weaves actual characters who participated in the Battle of Midway with some fictional characters and likely dialogue of pilots of that era. The author is eminently qualified to bring this well researched story to life.

Throughly enjoyed this book.

As a longtime student of the Battle of Midway, I throughly enjoyed this book. Fictionalized only in the dialog, the history of this great battle is spot on. The characters are real, and the times and places are real. Mr. Miller puts you in the Ready Room, The cockpits, on the bridge, and in the crew spaces of these great ships. You will not regret listening to this book if you know a little or a lot about The Battle of Midway. Highly Recommended!

Great listen!

Miller does a first rate job melding fiction with history. His experience as a carrier pilot adds a lot to the story. The hour by hour account of the battle helps give perspective.

The reader has some problems. He consistently referred to Japanese fighters as “type O” — I was confused until I realized that he meant “Type Zero”. Also the miscreant Japanese cruiser is “Ton-eh”, not Tone.

Easy listen that's historically accurate

Best retelling of the battle that I've read or heard as far as entertainment keeping very close to history is concerned.

Great book - entertaining and informative!

This is a 'must listen' for anyone interested in carrier and naval aviation, and/or WWII and the war in the Pacific. Kevin Miller has done a masterful job of weaving the complex history of the Battle of Midway into this fictional piece. If you aren't yet a student of the Battle of Midway, this book will provide you with the background on how important this battle was to our efforts against the Japanese, and the incredible heroism of the aviators and sailors who took the fight to the Japanese Navy. Moreover, the narration is superbly executed by Francis Kearney. Enthusiastically recommended!
