About this listen
The End, Rena wrote on the calendar square.
Rena Abrios, the only living seer on the planet of Anyari, has her most horrific vision yet - she foresees the apocalypse.
Soon, nearly every human on her peaceful, technologically advanced planet will die. Rena even knows who’s behind it: philanthropist Alvun Merak.
This type of prophecy can’t be averted. Despite that, Rena believes her sister, 17-year-old Ellin, is meant to fight it.
The more Ellin learns about Merak, the more alarmed she becomes. He’s funding an archeological dig with mysterious, world-ending potential. Ellin, her boyfriend Trett, and Rena scramble to stop him.
But Merak’s wealth and power may make him unbeatable. And the seer and her sister know that fate is the fiercest enemy of all.
Will anyone survive the prophesied apocalypse?
The Seer’s Sister is the exciting sci-fi prequel to The Magic Eaters YA fantasy trilogy. It’s a full-length novel that can be listened to before or after the trilogy or as a stand-alone. If you like imperfect characters worth rooting for, villains with dark secrets, and in-depth worldbuilding, then you’ll love Carol Beth Anderson’s heart-pounding tale.
Content note: The Seer’s Sister contains scenes of abduction and captivity, along with plot lines relating to cancer and death, including discussion of a child’s death.

In The Beginning
This was my first experience with Carol Beth Anderson's work and it was great! I enjoyed the story very much and I recommend it to others who like this genre. I'm looking forward to reading the series as it promises to be quite exciting if the prequel is any indication. Carol Beth Anderson's narration is excellent as she adds an emotional depth for her characters in her performance. I was given a free copy of the audiobook and I have voluntarily left this review.

A great prequel to the magic eaters series
This was a great book. It was a little different reading this after already reading the magic eaters series. I still was hoping for a certain outcome. And man I really got upset at some points in the book at the ignorance of a certain man. But it really helped push the story along.
The main characters were really fun the follow. The ending was perfect. And hearing what the little girls name was perfect after knowing the main character in the main series.
The narration was really good as well. I'm usually skeptical of when authors do their own narration. But this one was spot on.

Great narration and a decent storyline. Worth it!
Carol did a fantastic job narrating this book. I always have mixed feelings when an author reads their own story, because typically it's terrible, but she did excellent! Story-wise I enjoyed the majority of the novel. Great characters, easy to follow dialog, and a story obviously building toward a bigger series. A bit too much emotional teenage angst and flippancy for me but I'm not the typical target audience either. Overall well worth the credit on Audible!

All the feels. Excellent Quality.
Really well narrated. Great voices. Loved the story. Had some great twists and feels.
The science felt well-reseached and even the hacker stuff felt better done than on other books I've read (which is great because it didn't pull me out of the story for being way off).
Looking forward to the rest of the series. Excellent start.

So good!
Since this is a prequel, it took me a minute (maybe a couple of chapters) to reorient myself to the timeline. I had in my mind that this was about one of the seers in books 1-3, so once I was in the right timeline, it made so much sense and was SO good! I honestly couldn’t stop listening.
There’s so much suspense, up until the very end. You think you know what will happen (especially since it’s a prequel) but then something else happens…and how does it really happen…to whom does it happen? These questions all kept me listening nonstop. It was a two-day listen for me, but only because I had to sleep. -_-
To be completely honest, I’ve had this book in Kindle form for several months, maybe a year? But my eyes are lazier than my ears, lol, and I much prefer to listen to books. My hands stay too busy otherwise to sit and read anymore, kind of sad. That being said, I’m super happy that this came out in audio version.
I’ve listened to every fictional book by this author and she continues to get better and better, this was the best performance yet!
In full disclosure, I did receive a complementary copy with the understanding that I would give a completely unbiased and honest review, which you have just read. 10 out of 10 recommend!

Sci-fi -Fantasy Apocalypse Peequel
This is a prequel to the Magic Eaters Trilogy, but also reads as a complete story in itself. I haven't read any of the main books yet, but this story did its job and has me curious.
The book starts off with Rena seeing the end of the world in a little over two months. She has to make some difficult decisions and wonder about free will or being a pawn of Fate.
Ellin is only seventeen and wants nothing to do with this saving the world stuff. There's a bit of angst as she comes around to accepting what she must do.
The sisters' frustrations and struggles with each other, their circumstances, and the world in general are clear and understandable. I don't think I'd see the point of trying to stop an inevitable apocalypse either!
There are some twists and plenty of action. Although it was evident from the start how the story had to end, I kept hoping Ellin found some way to thwart the vision.
The author narrated her own book. I have a ton of respect for any author who does that, but Carol Anderson does a fantastic job of bringing her characters and story to life.

Engaging backstory
Many thanks to Carol Beth Anderson for the complimentary copy of this audio book for my honest review. I confess that I love listening to audio books narrated by the author because it gives a personal connection to the novel and Anderson has an excellent quality in her voice throughout the narration.
Like previous novels, this story is well designed and Beth's character development is compelling. I particularly appreciated the detail given to Alvun Merak, who represented someone with a good heart, but also someone driven by a painful life experience with a God shaped vacuum in his heart. He shows how determination and a drive to "make things right" in his own eyes is compelling, but a that sometimes the end does not justify the means, especially when devoid of submission to God. The contrast between Merak and his wife in this regard was very striking and I really appreciated it's place in the novel.
As a scientist myself I really enjoyed the details that Beth included about Ellin's research. I felt like there was a good balance of depth, connection with plausible reality and the idea that when one is close to an answer, it's hard to be objective when the stakes are high, especially when the answer is not what one desires it to be. I also appreciated Ellin's drivenness and the consequences in her relationships because of that - some aspects which I have experienced at times in my own life.
The technology throughout the novel is futuristic, but not so unrealistic as to think that some of these things might be possible for our own world. Although I have listened to all the books in this trilogy, I really enjoyed getting the back-story as to how things came to be the way they were in that world. Beth's writing style of picking a date a few months before "the Day" and then counting down time in each transition was very compelling and it both moved the story along, as well as gave one a sense of timeline. It also did a great job describing the settlement and development of civilization on Anyari and the adaptations made by those who traveled there from Earth. The only thing I really didn't appreciate in the story was the explicit description of lesbian relationships, which while I know has become more common in our own world, was a real distraction to me and I think entirely unnecessary for the story to be successful. The relationship development between the characters otherwise was tasteful and mostly appropriate for young adult readers.
I especially appreciated the final chapter about what Ellin and Trett's life looked like after "the Day," which served as a great transition to the main trilogy.

excellent work in moving to foregone conclusion
excellent work in moving to foregone conclusion
always tough to keep reader engaged in a story that you know ends up in a car crash or in this case, the end of the the world.
female protagonist has sister who can see the future. A seer. Everything is foreordained unless the seeress starts to mentally break down.
another nice spin is limitations on the seeress ability to share knowledge
bit of cliffhanger at end but it is a prologue. already have trilogy that follows but will be different as prologue details end of technology and a new world emerges
