Without the help of the lady he was trying to help, the detective persevered, conducting a compelling Investigation and risking his career while doing so. Rayner’s abilities and sixth sense were tested to the limit, hampered by Crockett’s refusal to divulge whatever it was, she feared.
Either he would eventually reveal the truth, having to work against all odds, or Annie Crockett would die inside the hovel in which she lived her life.
