About this listen
The Search for Broken Sky is a story of unconditional love, uncompromising friendship, and unassailable loyalty between a young Native American woman, her faithful dog, and a horse of legendary intelligence, grace, and beauty. While some see them as outcasts in a community already widely viewed as outsiders, it is their own commitment to one another that they cling to and hold most dear. When one of them goes missing, all of their hearts are broken. Yet, despite their shared pain, their unwavering determination to be reunited allows them to overcome the impossible odds stacked against them.
The journey will take them across the majestic beauty and untamed wilderness of Wyoming, following a century-old smugglers' route along the Bighorn River. Although the picturesque landscapes are reminiscent of the untamed west of the mid-1800s, after sunset, there are dangers lurking in the shadows, where men are not necessarily recognized as being at the top of the food chain. As their expedition takes them north toward Montana, they are unaware of the predator stalking them from the cover of night, and the showdown they will face on the search for Broken Sky.

Story
When South African conservationist Lawrence Anthony was asked to accept a herd of "rogue" wild elephants on his Thula Thula game reserve in Zululand, his common sense told him to refuse. But he was the herd's last chance of survival: they would be killed if he wouldn't take them. In order to save their lives, Anthony took them in. In the years that followed he became a part of their family. And as he battled to create a bond with the elephants, he came to realize that they had a great deal to teach him about life, loyalty, and freedom.

Story
Ordered to hold an abandoned army post, John Dunbar found himself alone, beyond the edge of civilization. Thievery and survival soon forced him into the Indian camp, where he began a dangerous adventure that changed his life forever. Set in 1863, the novel follows Lieutenant John Dunbar on a magical journey from the ravages of the Civil War to the far reaches of the imperiled American frontier, a frontier he naively wants to see "before it is gone".

When a series of devastating terror attacks brought down the United States, Conor and Barb assumed they were safe in their compound. They had everything they needed. They were armed and highly trained. But then, Barb was kidnapped. The kidnappers didn’t know why Conor was known as The Mad Mick. They didn’t know the fear and respect his name invoked in the shadowy underworld of covert operations. They didn’t know that when it came to protecting his family, he was without conscience, without compassion, and without equal. But they would soon find out.

Wonderful!
Riano did a fine job of making this story from the heart. Native American people have a special place in my heart as my family had to hide out to keep from being taken out west to a reservation. Our people are close to the animals and land. The narrator did a great job bringing it to life.

Powerful and Thought-provoking
I would like to say first to the author thank you for giving a voice to Indigenous People about mental health issues. I am a person of mixed heritage, a Hawaiian mother and Indigenous father, so this book speaks to me loud and clear. The Search for Broken Sky may be short, but it has a powerful message that the world needs to hear about unconditional love and acceptance. I really enjoyed the book it made me laugh, cry, mad, and stand up and cheer. This story is a MUST READ/LISTEN, to I promise you won't regret it. I received this book for free upon my request. I am voluntarily leaving my honest and unbiased review here of my own free will.

This book was highly enjoyable. I am an animal lover myself. I can understand the special bond that is created. To add to everything, I also have an Andalusian Mare. They are a spicy breed, strongly opinionated and absolutely my favorite. Thank You, Riano!

A Girl, a Dog, and a Horse
Heartwarming story about the unbreakable connection of love between a girl, her dog, and her horse. It's a short story but it packs a lot into the two and a half hours. I was so immersed into the story during a trip, that I was surprised I was at my destination already. Narration was great.

Dramatic and Touching Story
The author tells a very interesting story of a girl who loved a horse and a dog and the people who loved her. When the horse is stolen the dog goes to get him back. It’s a dramatic story that is heartfelt and the response of the Native American community and others is good to see.

Wonderful Story
Great story of how much a dog can be dedicated to his humans and other animals. Fun story to read. I would have rated it a 5 star book except for the inappropriate language. Seems to me there is enough vocabulary available without using such language. It's sad that I won't be able to share the book because of it.

The Shortest Story I'll NEVER Forget
I took about 3 seconds for Ahyoka, Apache, and Broken Sky to worm their way into my heart. After that, this audiobook was priceless in every way. Diane Scanzaroli's performance was incredibly humanizing, presenting Riano McFarland's unbelievable novel in a way that had me in laughter, tears, outrage, and tears again. Get it and listen on a rainy day, because I can almost guarantee you that you won't get anything else done once you start listening to it.
