About this listen

An accessible, heart-melting romance that also tackles serious issues for teen girls today, from the author of Playing the Player.

Romance book blogger Vivian Galdi is a girl on a mission: the Replacement Crush Mission. After Jake the Snake pretends their secret summer kissing sessions never happened, Vivian creates a list of safe crush targets, determined to avoid anyone who pings her zing meter. But nerd-hot Dallas, the new guy in town, sends the mission and Vivian’s zing meter into chaos. While designing software for the bookstore where Vivian works, Dallas wages a counter mission, analyzing his target and taking advantage of the tactical errors in her strategy.

Does Dallas just like a good game of Replacement Crush Battlefield, or is he on his own mission to prove to Vivian that true love can’t be strategized? And how much collateral damage can they both sustain during the heat of battle?

What listeners say about The Replacement Crush

Highly rated for:

The Audiobook Appears To Be A Young Adult Romance Novel With A Cute And Engaging Storyline, Featuring Relatable Characters With Nerdy Interests And Humorous Moments. The Narration Is Praised As Enjoyable. However, Many Listeners Found The Book Excessively Long, With Repetitive Content And Unnecessary Drama That Made The Protagonist Frustrating Towards The End. Some Felt The Story Dragged On For Too Long And Had An Abrupt Ending. Despite The Negatives, The Overall Premise And Initial Parts Of The Romance Were Well-received By Those Looking For A Lighthearted, Feel-good Read.

Amazing

This book was heartfelt, giggling, and yelling at Viv to stop fighting the chemistry. I really enjoyed this and the narrator was amazing with conveying the emotional turmoil of Viv. Loved it.

Awesome narrative

I loved the story but Emily Lawrence did a fantastic job as the narrator. Between Lisa and Emily it was really easy to be immersed in the story and feel what the characters were going through. I loved the “movie” they had going through my mind as I was listening to the book.

cute story

I really enjoyed this book. It does touch on bullying and body issues. It also points out flaws people have.

Trigger warning

Not my favorite narrator generally, and definitely too old sounding for a high school character. Mostly cute and entertaining story, but it needed a trigger warning. I wasn’t expecting the assault dynamic, and it shook me out of an otherwise cutesy stress free feel that I wanted out of this book.

Two Too Long

I’m two hours out from finishing and I’m starting to get seriously annoyed with so much of this story. 1) the half finished sentences or pauses being taken by everybody!! 2) the heroine running away from confrontation after starting it or just being an ass to people when she just needed to use her words. It happened way too often with her to not start irking me 3) the mental monologue got repetitive and could have been cut

Will I finish, yes. Just mad-it was such a cute premise and romance up until it went two hours too long.

+: I’m a romance book nerd too, love mcnerd, like the main heroine is thicc, like the girl squad vibez. Loved the secondary male characters who were friends to her-so cute

Ive heard more Spock quotes then I care to admit🤣🤣🤣

Another solid rom-com. It got a little heavy for Viv with Jake (who is the worst kinda jerk there is… sadly we all know of someone like him 🤬)

However I love seeing Toph’s protective big brother role and then Dallas being so patient with Viv and her RC list and waiting for her in a way to realize how much he really likes her.

Viv is really going through what most teens do, figuring out what she wants and trying to “go with the flow” as she thinks she should instead of following her heart and just being 💯 honest with her feelings and who she wants.

I love seeing the budding relationship of her and Dallas, the struggles, real conversations and inner thoughts and seeing the yearning they have for each other.

Dallas is the perfect book boyfriend…. And that ending 🥰🥰🥰🥰

I love reading books like this in between my heavier books it really helps my lil bookwormie heart heal some. Even though it has some tough parts to read nothing truly heavy happens in the book, topics are covered and cursing.

Good story but kinda scary toward end

So this story is really good but towards the end it’s scary -sorta spoiler- Jake like harassed her at the end and lots of swears and 3 *F* bombs and frankly I got scared… but I recommend but at older age if like 14+ or 16+ because I’m 12 and it’s too much language and scary a bit but it’s really good just too noty haha

Pretty cute overall.

Good story. It took some weird turns and had lots of potential. Overall it was satisfying, but it could have been better. The narrator was pretty good. A little nasally, but not too bad. You get used to it pretty quick and she did good guy voices. I didn't love it and I didn't hate it and I didn't mind finishing it. Would be a cute movie with some story tweaks.

Cute!

Such a cute love story! Both main characters had quirky personalities and their banter with one another was funny. I definitely recommend!
