About this listen

The lore and legends around the underground game known as Rabbits gain new dimensions in The Quiet Room, a twisty tale set in the world of the hit Rabbits podcast.

“Another mind-bending adventure replete with mystery.”—Publishers Weekly

After nearly winning the eleventh iteration of Rabbits, the mysterious alternate reality game so vast it uses the entire world as its canvas, Emily Connors suddenly finds herself trapped in a dimensional stream where the game does not exist. At all. Except . . . why do sinister figures show up to stop her every time she goes looking? Does Rabbits truly not exist, or is it being hidden? And if it’s being hidden, why—and by whom?

Meanwhile, architect and theme park designer Rowan Chess is having the weirdest month of his life, full of odd coincidences and people who appear one moment and vanish the next, with no trace they ever even existed. The game that is hiding from Emily seems to have found Rowan—with a vengeance.

But only when Rowan and Emily meet do things start to get dangerous, for together they uncover a conspiracy far deeper and deadlier than either of them expected—one that could forever change the nature not only of the game, but of reality itself.

As with the first book in the series, I immensely enjoyed this story. There is enough realism to be believable and enough science fiction to tickle the mind. The story keeps a great pace and always leaves you wanting more.

The performance was also impeccable. For some audiobooks I am kept constantly second guessing the narrator's choices of inflection, pacing, voicing, etc., but not for this book or series. The narrator performs well and allows the listener to remain fully immersed.

Quiet Room and Rabbits are both good, fun story. I recommend - easier if you read in order.

Love this series!

A lot of rambling and unnecessarily specific (sometimes distractingly so) details. We don’t need to know the brand of every beer, etc.

But some twists were explored, the setting was developed a bit more, and it wasn’t too mentally taxing.

Interesting Notions But Repetitive

Excellent character and world building. Love the subtle nods to past pop culture. The Quiet Room and Rabbits are a must read.

Simply complex

Another great story in the Rabbits universe. Can’t wait for the next one. The door is open……

A common issue with the podcast and the books is that it never seems like they actually ever play a proper game of rabbits. This novel at least starts to touch on puzzle solving, and has drifted away from the constant nostalgic retro pop-culture name dropping of the first season of the podcast. It also improves in the aspect of a proactive protagonist, which was a major issue early in the Rabbits universe where the main character didn’t do anything on their own, but was just handed information by others. For a series about an alternate reality game, it would be great if they ever actually played it. But no, it’s always “corrupted” or “there’s something wrong with this iteration of Rabbits” and you end up with an entire story about people doing everything except play rabbits

They still haven’t played Rabbits

You gave me whiplash this time, Terry! Such a great story that I couldn’t stop listening. Keep them coming, my friend! Now about the next season of Tanis…no pressure…just talk to your cousin Nic and tell him to get back on the path ;-D

Another great Rabbits tale

This is not normally my go-to genre for audio books, but I loved Terry Miles’ podcasts and had to listen to the book. He has an incredible imagination! I will listen to anything he puts out!

Excellent!

All of this guy’s writing - whether in novel form or podcast - is so circular and evasive it drives me nuts. His stories have a ton of potential, and he’s incredibly creative but everything he does is left completely open ended to make the follow-up easier to write. PLEASE JUST WRITE AN ACTUAL ENDING FOR PETE’S SAKE! lol

Will Terry Miles ever actually write an ending to ANYTHING??
