About this listen

Only Mark Twain, with his wry humor, would weigh in on a military campaign's failure and delight his listeners with a different take on the evils of war and the damage it can cause.©2007 Listener's Digest Inc (P)2007 Listener's Digest Inc Action & Adventure Classics Witty

I like this story. I just plain like it. I've listened to it over and over, and I just get a kick out of it. That poor hapless bunch, tripping all over each other, going in circles - it's like the blueprint for the Keystone Kops. Just a bunch of buffoons, a bunch of dumb bunnies, doing whatever they have to do to avoid an encounter with the enemy. More wars should be fought that way - we'd have a lot fewer casualties if there were more dumb bunnies "fighting".

I like this story!

After listening to Twain's more well-known books recently, this one was a little different. It's fairly short, but packed with his style of humor, and likely some of his political views of the time come through as well. It was very enjoyable and laugh-out-loud funny at times too. The performance is decent too.

Short, but densely packed dose of Twain's Humor
