About this listen

The Princess and the Snowball

Summary

Princess Min-jun, a young Korean princess, loves spending money on jewelry, toys, clothes, and treats. Despite her wise father Papa Owl's warnings about needs versus wants, she accumulates credit card debt.

When Min-jun faces overwhelming bills, Papa Owl teaches her using snowballs. He pushes a small snowball downhill, watching it grow into a dangerous avalanche. "This is your debt," he explains. "You're running from it, but debt rolls faster than you can run and will crush your dreams."

Through guidance, Min-jun learns self-control, distinguishing needs from wants, and paying off debts. Papa Owl then shows her a savings snowball at the hill's bottom. As she pushes it downhill, it grows under her control.

"When you save and invest, your money works for you," he says. "Instead of paying interest on debt, you earn interest on savings."

Min-jun transforms into a wise money manager, achieving financial independence and teaching other children about the two snowballs — one that chases you toward trouble, one you control toward freedom.

Key Lessons:

Distinguish between needs and wants

Debt compounds like a dangerous downhill snowball

Savings grow like a beneficial snowball you control

Self-control enables financial freedom

Start saving early to maximize growth

Live below your means to build wealth

The book uses snowball metaphors to make financial concepts accessible to young listeners, emphasizing that success comes from wise choices, not high income.
