Brother Lawrence
About this listen
The Practice of the Presence of God has inspired people for generations. Brother Lawrence, also known as Nicholas Herman, was a devout French Carmelite friar of the 17th-century who’s aim in life was to simply love God with all his being and cultivate a sensitivity to the presence of God. The following audiobook is a compilation of conversations and letters by Brother Lawrence giving us insight into his personal relationship with God and his singular focus on union with the divine. The text was written over 300 years ago and later translated into English. Though some of the language may be dated, the heart of his message shines through with clarity, that the sensitivity to the presence of God in our lives and our love for Him is, and ought to be, our highest priority. Everything is second to love.
Through his teachings, we learn how we ourselves can grow and mature in conversing with God on a daily basis. The impact of this simple, yet powerful audiobook can no doubt be life transforming. I hope that as you listen you find encouragement in the power and simplicity of prayer. May you be blessed in your pursuit of God and be transformed by the freedom we have in Christ to come directly to the Father in conversation and friendship.

Story
The Bible is explicit: We live in a world of distinct opponents; our very lives are a battle. Yet too many Christians lose more battles than they win and endure their walk with God rather than enjoy it because they don't recognize the enemy when they see it. More importantly, they have no idea how to respond. While society tells us we can react simply, the truth is that a wish, a hope, and a prayer are not the best responses to attacks from those who stand between us and the Father.

Story
In the book Abandonment to Divine Providence (published in 1851), he teaches the believer to submit to God’s will and to enjoy his loving presence. Abandonment is a term used by mystic writers to signify the first stage of the union of the soul with the divine, by conforming to God's will. Abandoning an outcome to God is to follow the path of peace. Originally written as letters for the direction of Nuns, the book is an excellent guide for Christians yearning to attain resignation and peace.

Story
The way to perfection is simple - to unite one’s will with God’s, putting into action the prayer “Thy will be done". In this precious short work, Uniformity with God's Will, St. Alphonsus Liguori explains the importance of conforming one’s will to God’s and how to do so; how God is glorified by our resignation to his will even more than by our acts; how to gain peace of mind and serenity by trusting in God, accepting what he wills for our lives, and following his commands.

Someone said that while Dr. A. W. This theme - recognizing God for who he is, giving him the worship and honor due him - was particularly dominant in Dr. Tozer's late writings.

Story
The Interior Castle, also titled The Mansions, is a classic work of Christian mysticism by St. Teresa of Ávila. Published in 1588, the text serves as a practical guide for those who wish to achieve mystical union with the divine. Teresa viewed the soul as a “castle made of a single diamond”, which contains seven mansions or dwelling places. The concept of the immanence of God - who dwells in the seventh mansion - was central to her spirituality.

Story
Humility is the key to all the virtues. It’s the necessary foundation for growth in all the others. If we do not know ourselves, if we cannot see our flaws and strengths (but especially our flaws), clearly, how can we grow in virtue? How can we begin to make ourselves less and God more? Indeed, in our age of social media where it’s a constant race to appear the best, to put up a front, to show others a false image (and to show ourselves a false image), cultivating humility is, perhaps, more important now than ever.

Though he was orphaned at age 14, repeatedly struck with debilitating illnesses, and unfairly expelled from college, Brainerd allowed nothing to deter him from serving God wholeheartedly. He traveled thousands of miles by horseback across treacherous terrain to preach the gospel to remote Indians. Their benefit ultimately brought about his early death at the age of 29. This book not only offers a captivating story, but an uplifting buoy for those who are weary, distant, or discouraged.

A solid reading of this marvelous text
The annotation mentioned was simply a braid introduction to the author of the text, Brother Lawrence. Apart from that, there is no great interpretation of or retranslation of the text into a modern vernacular.
At least, not that I noticed! Regardless, I highly recommend this audio presentation.
