About this listen

How much loyalty does a mother owe to her son? And how does a doctor choose between faith and science?

Christine Garrett is investigating an unusual malaria outbreak on the south coast of England. As she threads the connections between the dead, she discovers links to her son and the charismatic leader he follows. In finding the source of the spreading plague, she is forced to decide between her old faith and the reason that has brought her to a lightless place.

Frightening, gripping and with unexpected twists, The Pattern Maker is a timely story of the dangers that arise when ideals, technology and human talents are perverted by absolute belief. It explores the human cost when people are seen as means not ends, asking questions with no easy answers.

Would you consider the audio edition of The Pattern Maker to be better than the print version?

The audio version is well done and a pleasure to listen to. But the two are different when you wnt a book you want a book, when you want to be read too, you want to be read to. And while it isn't an essentile feature the cover is great!

What did you like best about this story?

Bio terrorism is in the news right now. Envisioning how it could both happen and how difficult it is to stop makes a great read and listen.

What does Emma Powell bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Her voice is great to listen too - but as an American we all love a british accent.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, but i couldn't - it took several.

Any additional comments?

Its really well done. Loving foward to more from both Lim and Powell
