About this listen
According to sixteen-year-old Zander Osborne, nowhere is an actual place - and she's just fine there. But her parents insist that she get out of her head - and her home state - and attend Camp Padua, a summer camp for at-risk teens.
Zander does not fit in - or so she thinks. She has only one word for her fellow campers: crazy. In fact, the whole camp population exists somewhere between disaster and diagnosis. There's her cabinmate Cassie, a self-described manic-depressive-bipolar-anorexic. Grover Cleveland (yes, like the president), a cute but confrontational boy who expects to be schizophrenic someday, odds being what they are. And Bek, a charmingly confounding pathological liar.
But amid group "share-apy" sessions and forbidden late-night outings, unlikely friendships form, and as the Michigan summer heats up, the four teens begin to reveal their tragic secrets. Zander finds herself inextricably drawn to Grover's earnest charms, and she begins to wonder if she could be happy. But first she must come completely unraveled to have any hope of putting herself back together again.

Story
Pondering math problems is Esther Ainsworth’s obsession. If only life’s puzzles required logic. Her stepfather’s solution? Avoidance. He’s exiled the family to Truth or Consequences, New Mexico, to erase a big secret from Esther’s past. So much for the truth. Now for the consequences: an empty swimming pool, a water-sucking cactus outside her window, a goldfish rescued from a church festival, and Esther’s thirst for something real.

Story
Laurie Notaro has proved everyone wrong: she didn’t end up in rehab, prison, or cremated at a tender age. She just went gray. At past fifty, every hair’s root is a symbol of knowledge (she knows how to use a landline), experience (she rode in a car with no seat belts), and superpowers (a gray-haired lady can get away with anything). Though navigating midlife is initially upsetting—the cracking noises coming from her new old body, receiving regular junk mail from mortuaries—Laurie accepts it. And then some.

This feeling only deepened when his family moved from Japan to North Korea when Ishikawa was just thirteen years old, and unwittingly became members of the lowest social caste. His father, himself a Korean national, was lured to the new Communist country by promises of abundant work, education for his children, and a higher station in society. He discovers a kindred spirit in Mitsuya Majime - a young, disheveled square peg with a penchant for collecting antiquarian books and a background in linguistics - whom he swipes from his company's sales department.

Like watching a teenage movie
Has something in it, but for an adult as me feels like a little light and easy. Good to kill time while in my one hour commute though.

The Odds of Loving Grover Cleveland
This is a lovely coming of age story replete with behavioral health issues plaguing many of today’s adolescence. The storyline is riveting.the characters are well developed. The power of the human spirit to face overwhelming tragedy and courageously move forward mirrors reality in the lives of so many adolescents. I would highly recommend this to people who may have teens having a hard time coping and mental health practitioners.

I recommend this book.
An easy-to-relate-to group of troubled teens try to figure out who they are and what they want from family, life, friendships, and each other at a summer camp for at-risk teens.
The narration is great, the characters well developed, and the subject matter is deep, while still being funny, raw, and honest.
I highly recommend.

A must read for teens and young adults
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would recommend this audiobook to anyone that has tween or teen children. It illustrates the anguish of growing up and lets them know that they are not alone in their suffering. It lets them know that even if people look different, come from different backgrounds, the anxiety is still the same.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Odds of Loving Grover Cleveland?
The attempted suicide.
Have you listened to any of Caitlin Kelly’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
If I had the time, I would have listen all in one sitting.
Any additional comments?
Great book for young women especially.

Teens
I thought that was a great book about teenagers and their problems. It was so easy to like these characters cause I have friends that more or less similar. The author the teenage life right on the spot. It’s not for every teen but you’ll know if it’s for you from reading the synopsis.
