About this listen
This audiobook offers a clear, concise account of the Eightfold Path prescribed to uproot and eliminate the deep underlying cause of suffering—ignorance.
Each step of the path is believed to cultivate wisdom through mental training, and includes an enlightened and peaceful middle path that avoids extremes. The theoretical as well as practical angles of each of the paths—right view, right intention, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right concentration—are illustrated through examples from contemporary life.
The work's final chapter addresses the Buddhist path and its culmination in enlightenment.

Story
The Eightfold Path is the most widely known formulation of the Buddha's teaching. It is ancient, reaching back to the Buddha's very first discourse, and it is highly venerated as a unique treasury of wisdom and practical guidance. The teaching of the Eightfold Path challenges us to grasp the implications of that vision, and asks us to transform ourselves in its light. Like the teaching itself, this work covers every aspect of life.

The word aṅguttara literally means 'up by one factor', i.e. 'incremental'. It refers to the fact that the discourses are arranged by numbered sets, with the numbers increasing by one.

Story
The jhānas are eight progressive altered states of consciousness that can be identified with the aspect of the Buddha’s Eightfold Path called Right Concentration. Training in concentration leads to these states, each of which yields a deeper and subtler state of awareness than the previous one. The jhānas are not in themselves awakening, but they are a skillful means for stilling the mind in a way that leads in that direction, and they are attainable by anyone who devotes the time and sincerity of practice necessary to realize them.

Treasured by Buddhists of all traditions, The Way of the Bodhisattva (Bodhicharyavatara) is a guide to cultivating the mind of enlightenment and to generating the qualities of love, compassion, generosity, and patience. This text has been studied, practiced, and expounded upon in an unbroken tradition for centuries, first in India, and later in Tibet. Presented in the form of a personal meditation in verse, it outlines the path of the Bodhisattvas - those who renounce the peace of individual enlightenment and vow to work for the liberation of all beings.

Story
Twenty-four of the Buddha's most distinguished disciples are brought to life in ten chapters of rich narration. They include monks who were very close to him throughout his life, including Sariputta and Mahamoggallana; his cousin and companion Ananda; his principal women disciples, including the nun Isidasi and his lay disciple, the courtesan Ambapali; and the serial killer Angulimala, whose character was transformed after meeting the Buddha.

Most of these talks have previously only been available in limited, private editions and the publication of Food for the Heart, therefore, represents a momentous occasion: the hugely increased accessibility of his words and wisdom.

Drawn directly from 24 Pali, Sanskrit, and Chinese sources, and retold by Thich Nhat Hanh in his inimitably beautiful style, this book traces the Buddha's life slowly and gently over the course of 80 years, partly through the eyes of Svasti, the buffalo boy, and partly through the eyes of the Buddha himself. Old Path White Clouds is destined to become a classic of religious literature.

Story
The Numbered Discourses (Aṅguttara Nikāya) is the last and longest of the four primary divisions of the Sutta Piṭaka, (Baskets of Discourses) that make up the main original teachings of the Buddha. The word aṅguttara literally means 'up by one factor', i.e. 'incremental'. It refers to the fact that the discourses are arranged by numbered sets, with the numbers increasing by one.

Story
In the teaching of the Buddha, the practice of giving claims a place of special eminence, one that singles it out as being in a sense the foundation and seed of spiritual development. This publication was compiled by Bhikkhu Bodhi to explore this cardinal Buddhist virtue in greater depth by featuring essays in which four modern writers and a classical commentator set forth their understanding of giving and its relation to the wider body of Dhamma practice.

Performance average. Maybe flat on purpose.
Content good and presentation average. Exhaustively systematic as Buddhism is at its core! Next read Huxley's "The Perennial Philosophy".

Very clear and concise breakdown of the 8fold path
This was a profoundly insightful book about The immense Wisdom Contained within 1 of the Buddha's Foundational teachings. i highly recommend this for an intermediate Practitioner of Buddhism Because some of the Expansive technical breakdown can be a bit overwhelming for a novice. I will definitely be reading this book Many times over and Will use Some of the references to further study. I am eternally grateful for Bhukku Bodhi And the work he has put in to Share The knowledge of the Buddha. a++ 10/10

Reading is very lifeless
Unfortunately the narrator is just reading, not voice acting, so it's a very dull listen. I'm finding it incredibly difficult to follow because of this, and considering asking for a refund.

Narrator is flat mispronounces many words information is great
The information in this book is really nicely said *** but the woman reading it sounds like she’s reading some thing of no interest to her
She reads really fast and she doesn’t have any acting skills so I basically ended up listening to each chapter at least twice to try to get the meaning. That being said the information and the interconnectedness of all of it is well made. I should’ve just gotten the book.
and she can’t pronounce word properly words. It’s a rough read, but I’m going to keep going because information is so great.

I couldn’t finish due to the voice actor
I think the book itself is good but the voice actor has some kind of purposeful accent that seems to be trying to be macho and authoritative (trying to make her voice deeper on purpose), and this kind of affect of purposely pronouncing things weird. Like she’s trying to sound all Eastern-y instead of just speaking normally. It is extremely distracting. I tried powering through it several times just to get the author’s message but kept getting distracted by her pretentious accent. It’s like those fonts that look like Chinese brush strokes that they use on parody kung fu movies, except verbally. I wish I could just get a computer to read it instead. Her voice acting is so corny. It seems to have so much to do with her ego and how she’s this big tough lady who knows all about how to pronounce “Buddha” and “kamma” the REAL way, and also lets that affect spread into her pronunciation of other words needlessly too whenever she feels like it. Even though it’s clear she’s capable of speaking normal standard English and doesn’t have an accent, she just chooses to. That’s called being pretentious or affected. If the author picked this lady to make the book sound “mystical” and “Eastern” then I have to say I’m not too impressed. I think the content of the Buddha’s teachings is all I need not someone virtually dressing as a samurai and hamming it up. Just awful.
