About this listen
Small town charm. Big city evil.
In a small Adirondack Mountain town, secrets are closely guarded. And outsiders with crazy ideas are not welcome. So Police Chief Frank Bennett has his hands full when a group of environmental activists shows up in Trout Run, New York, trying to close down Raging Rapids, a popular tourist attraction.
Frank thinks they're all noise. Until their leader turns up with a bullet in his heart.
Now Frank must figure out why this group targeted Trout Run. And how they're connected to a feral family who lives off the grid.
As Frank untangles the clues, he confronts the lure of cash, the lure of power, and the lure of a happy family.
Now Frank must navigate the dangerous intersection of love and greed. And one wrong turn could spell death to those he most wants to protect.

Good story
I enjoyed the book but was confused that there was a book before this in the series and this is supposedly book 1. There is a Kindle book 1 in the same series with a different title. The Lure referred to the character in the THAT book 1 which was a bit confusing. It took a chapter or 2 to get use to the narrator but soon got past that and enjoyed the book.

Not the best work of the author
This is the second book series by this author I’ve listened to. The first was was ever so much better than the first book in this series. I thought about returning it but decided to finish and try one more in this series. I really want to love this one as much as I did the other one.

Suspense, mystery and surprises. Love it
The mystery pulls you in, the twists keep you hooked and the ending leaves you wanting for more of this small town who holds so many secrets and the delightful characters that make you chuckle as well as keeps you in suspense waiting to see how it will all end. I love that there are no cliffhangers, the author fills in every little question you may have. The ending is great, I loved the suspense and getting to know the characters. The author keeps you guessing and giving your mind a workout trying to solve the mystery of who done it and why.
The narrator does a wonderful job laying out the characters giving true emotions, dryness, showing how the town really cares for their neighbor. I enjoyed his character voices, both male and female tones were right on the money. I always knew who was talking and what they were feeling. He really brought out the coldness of a few characters that made me glad I didn’t know these people in person but he also brought out the passion they had for the cause they believed in. There were no repeating of words, no volume changes, if any breaks were taken I could not tell. He has a very pleasant normal voice that I could listen to for hours and not get tired of it. It is the first time I have listened to the narrators work and can’t wait to listen to more of it.
I really enjoyed the twists and turns, how the author brings it all together as she keeps you guessing. When it gets close to the end you think what about this or what happened to that character, she ties it all up nicely giving you a very well balance story that will keep you guessing until the end. I loved the characters and the role they play, even a touch of humor gives it a well rounded plot. There is a lot going on but it balances out wonderfully. The author hooked me from the start and keep me hooked all the way through. I am really looking forward to listening to more of this series and getting to know the characters better. It was an outstanding listen from the plot to the narrator, it was an audio I couldn’t put down and found things to do around the house so I could listen to it longer.

Gossip City
This was more about gossip than a crime investigation. The characters were very simple and way too many to remember their role in the story. The performance was not my favorite either. I only finished it only to have something playing in the car waiting for my next monthly credit to arrive.
