When you enter the world of James Herriot's Animal Stories, you'll share his wonder and humor, his adventures and misadventures as he contends with pet owners and landowners; rough-spoken farmers and soft-spoken gentry; orphaned lambs, litters of piglets and puppies, cattle and draught horses; and a miscellany of cats and dogs including, of course, Mrs. Pumphrey's inimitable Pekinese, Tricki Woo.

Alf Wight (aka James Herriot) grew up in Glasgow, where he lived during a happy childhood and then through the challenging years of training at the Glasgow Veterinary College. The story of how the young vet later traveled to the small Yorkshire town of Thirsk, aka Darrowby, to take the job of assistant vet is one that is well known through James Herriot's celebrated books and the popular All Creatures Great and Small television series. But Jim Wight's biography ventures beyond the trials and tribulations of his father's life as a veterinarian to reveal the man behind the stories.

Story
For all the fullness of God available to his daughters, we often feel limited by two defining insecurities: "I am too much" and "I am not enough". Jess and Hayley felt the same until one essential question turned the tables: If God is wild and free and he created women, what does this mean for us today? Wild and Free is an invitation to find freedom from the cultural captivity that holds us back, and freedom to step into God's wild and holy call in our lives. Jess and Hayley answer difficult questions that so many women have asked them over the years.

Story
As Adolf Hitler and the Nazis seduced a nation, bullied a continent, and attempted to exterminate the Jews of Europe, a small number of dissidents and saboteurs worked to dismantle the Third Reich from the inside. One of these was Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a pastor and author. In this New York Times bestselling biography, Eric Metaxas takes both strands of Bonhoeffer's life—the theologian and the spy—and draws them together to tell a searing story of incredible moral courage in the face of monstrous evil.

No disappointment here!
I love James Herriot and Christopher Timothy is absolutely the best! I was leary of ordering another because the last one I ordered, All Things Bright and Beautiful was sub standard on recording, but this one was perfect. Very entertaining, a good listen for the entire family. Something for everybody! Love it.

Incredible Series
A dramatic view of the life of an English country get that has past into history. What an endearing, funny, sad legacy of rural Yorkshire farmers and the vet that rolled up his sleeves and cared for the animals they loved and provided a living for so many.

The best of feel good books !
I have read all of the James Harriet books on audible. Nothing makes me feel more inspired to enjoy my life. The writing is clean, crisp, and delightfully sentimental. It’s a man happy with his life and sharing it. It is inspirational to enjoy what you have, and make the most of it. no books like these are written these days. Separately, the music, narration, and choice of tales is just delightful. Grab his books if you want to just be delighted and feel like you read some thing that made your life just a little bit better.a great stress reliever and these times of overly meaningful books.

Not my fave, but still good
This is my least favorite of the four in the series, but as you can see from the ratings I gave it, it's still good.
Unlike most of his works, this one has portions that some parents will want to pre-screen before reading to young children because of explicit references to animal sexuality, detailed accounts of collecting specimens for artificial insemination, etc. And, additionally, parents should be aware that this was a hard-drinking culture, and Herriot didn't minimize that fact.
The story is also oddly disjointed, making frequent jumps from the 1940's to the 1960's and back again, which detracted from its quality in my opinion.
However, it's still very enjoyable because Herriot had a wonderful eye for beauty, for humor, for poignancy, for sorrow, for joy. And he knew how to set it all down masterfully on paper.
And the narration? Well, it's Christopher Timothy! What more needs to be said? He's wonderful.
