About this listen
Ruth was a ghost of a girl when she arrived into foster mother Maggie Hartley's care. Pale, frail and withdrawn, it was clear to Maggie that Ruth had seen and experienced things that no 11-year-old should have to, that she had been conditioned to 'see no evil, speak no evil'.
Ruth is in desperate need of help, but can Maggie get through to her and unlock the harrowing secret she carries? Through love, reassurance and patience, Maggie starts to unravel Ruth's painful past - a past defined by cruelty and abuse by the very people who should have protected her.
Raised by a cruel stepmother and her father after her own mum abandoned her, Ruth was abused, underfed and ignored while her half siblings lived a life of luxury. It's up to Maggie to help Ruth find her voice - to be a ghost no more and bring those who have harmed her to justice.

Reader Comments
This book is recommended to those who have experienced child abuse, neglect, and abandonment. I wished at the end that all children who have been abused could have a happy ending after their problems have passed.

Maggie is Amazing
When we think about what a child has been through such as in this book, one often wonders how will she do it! This has been my favorite so far!

Be prepared to feel every emotion
Written with so much detail, Maggie Hartley’s books suck you into her world, making you love these children as much as she does. Be prepared to rejoice in their victories, and weep for their losses, to feel happy, sad, fear and frustration. Every child should have the opportunity to feel the love and safety that Maggie gives “her” kids.

I really enjoy the book but I can't get to finish it as it keeps going back to the first chapter and I am on chapter 16. I would really like to finish it
