The Dolan Girls by S. R. Mallery has it all. Set in Nebraska during the 1800s, whorehouse madams, ladies of the night, a schoolmarm, a Pinkerton detective, a Shakespeare-quoting old coot, brutal outlaws, and a horse-wrangler fill out the cast of characters. Added to the mix are colorful descriptions of an 1856 land rush, Buffalo Bill and his Wild West Show, Annie Oakley, bank/train robberies, small town local politics, and, of course, romance. Two, in fact!

I really enjoyed listening to this sweet historical romance from our countries time when people from different backgrounds and countries were coming together to form communities and towns. They needed to rely on each other for their success as a community and survival as a people. These Simple times fostered love and acceptance. Ideally this is how we should strive to live. The narrator did a lovely job of bringing the characters to life through her accents and personalities . It made this an enjoyable listen.

Very nice
I enjoyed this sweet Audible version historical romance very much. This story shows the western spirit of adventure in a young widow who has faced many hardships to come to this point. This is a Christian book and a very engaging and enjoyable read. The narrator was able to present interesting versions of the characters' voices making the book very enjoyable to listen to. It' was very well done.
As a newcomer to town, she finds many men who wish to become her suitor but she is independent and hopes to find her own way. Her special needs child is her first concern and she does all she can to provide and care for her.
You will enjoy this heartwarming story of a strong woman forging a new life.

A sweet [pun-intended] story!
The Light at the End of the Tunnel is the first book in the Women of Courage series. After Hannah Moorhouse finds herself a widow with a deaf child, Hannah and her daughter Sarah move from St. Louis to the quaint little town of Willow Valley in hopes of making a better life for her and her daughter. After arriving in Willow Valley, Hannah starts her own business selling hot chocolate made from her own secret recipe. Whenever Sarah passes by the business across the street she always waves to the owner, Thomas. One day Thomas comes over to introduce himself, quickly becoming enthralled with both Hannah and Sarah. Thomas eventually starts helping Hannah attract more customers to her store. Hannah and Thomas develop a quick friendship, but will the independent Hannah let it become more? What about the other suitors after her? Will Hannah be able get her business successful so they can stay in Willow Valley?
Narrator BreAnne Okoren brings this story to life with all her different voices!

The narrator perfectly delivered this piece. Not just for the listeners to understand but to let each one of us BE in the story. I was cleaning my attic while listening to this without interruption and I love how the Ms. Okoren changes her voice to accommodate each character. Thomas was my favorite character. Great work. This story is a must-listen for certain. You won’t be disappointed
