About this listen
Sir Robert Hafoc has a good life as the senior knight in Lord Giffords lands, in lush England, and with the hand of his daughter, the Lady Imogen, soon to be married. And then the world changes. While out hunting, he and his squire discover what they initially take to be two foreigners in the midst of the forests. A man and a woman. The man is injured and the woman is beautiful and elusive.
They turn out not to be mere wanderers. They turn out to be refugees fleeing from the conflict causing turmoil throughout Europe - the demise of the Templars, making their way south and to the mountainous region east of France. But not just any refugees.
These were important people and with assassins hard on their heels out to hunt the last templar and the incredible secret he carried. Entranced by the woman, Aona, puzzled by her brother, Robert insists they travel to the castle with him for treatment by the physician, and for food. Wary of anyones assistance, but not in a position to refuse, reluctantly the two agree.
What follows embarks Robert in to a collision course with Lord Gifford as Robert slowly but surely falls in love with the Aona and begins to understand he can no longer marry Imogen. In a fit of rage brought on by ill health, Gifford gives Robert an ultimatum - either marry his daughter or be thrown in the dungeons.
With the help of Imogen, Robert makes good his escape, yet now is pursued by both Giffords soldiers and the assassins. Robert has to fight for his life and the woman he loves against a growing wave of steel and determination. Yet ... finds friends in the most unlikely of places. A story of honour and sacrifice and love. A story of seething hatred and harshness and murder. A story of humanity at its best and at its worst. A story of the survival of ... the last templar.
