About this listen
This fast-paced romantasy is the perfect listen while waiting for the next release from Sarah J. Maas, Jennifer L. Armentrout, Amber V. Nicole, or Rebecca Yarros.
There used to be dragons in the valleybut theyre gone now. And no one knows where they went.
A Queens Lady with a love of books
Bookish Lady Celestina once was a favorite of the queen who enjoyed pampering her. The queen is now dead. The new queens favorite pastime is to hold court spectacles, where she violently maims or slays members of her court who has upset her. Celestina has managed to avoid becoming a spectacle by keeping out of the queens way. That is, until the battle.
The Beast of Fein
General Soren Kitmun leads one of the most feared armies in the four kingdoms. Its said the goddess of death cant collect souls fast enough when hes on the battlefield. When his king sends him to defend the neighboring Kingdom of Earst, he never expected to be rewarded with a Queens Lady turned slave.
A gift he never wanted
After Celestinas parents commit treason during the battle, Celestina is punished for their crimes and given as a slave to the Beast of Fein. Shes magically bound to obey his every whim. General Soren is as beautiful as he is terrifying. Hes a man who never breaks a promise, and hes vowed to execute the slaveafter hes done playing with her.
As they travel to Sorens homeland, Celestina falls for this complicated man who has both sworn to kill her and has killed to protect her. Hes hiding secrets that frighten her. And shes discovering shes not as powerless as the magical slave binding had led her to believe. Uncovering each others secrets may destroy not only their hearts but also leave an entire kingdom in ashes.
Finding the missing dragons may be their only hope.

Begins a bit whiny, but fantastic story!
I received an Advanced Listener's Copy of this and got so engrossed into the story, I had to buy the physical copy too! THIS IS GOOD!
The author's narration is a bit whiny in her lilt for the first couple of chapters before evening out and being quite enthralling. This is a single narration style and the narrator does really well at making large differences between male and female voices. However, it is difficult to ascertain the different male voices from each other.
Story! OMG This story is so enriched and luscious! There is emotional turmoil because of the FMC's predicament, the position of the MMC, and all of the side characters opinions... Not to mention the FMC is completely shunned by her entire community and her friends because of a decision made by other people. Along the path to her new home after being inadvertently rescued, she falls for her knight in shining armor. But, does he return her affections? Or even more importantly, is he allowed to?
Pacing of the book was a bit inconsistent, it's fast-paced in the beginning and the end, but it seemed to drag a little in the middle. Just enough to notice. Whilst the story was mostly about how to combat the magic on a certain restrictive neck device and character development, this entire realm and story is just beginning. So far, it is an adventure to heal a broken realm, fight the disappearing magic, and find the missing dragons whilst attempting to defeat vampires (or learn to love them, that's always a fun choice!)
Honestly, I cannot wait to read/listen to book 2!

Stunning Fantasy and the narrator is wonderful
Looking for a book to sweep you away? Just go ahead and snag this on audio! Sara does a beautiful job with all of the voices in this book and the author weaves a beautiful story with unique and intertwining magics and fantasy elements. I had been in an audio book rut for a while and this got me out of it easily!

It started off a bit whiny, but quickly turned So Good!!
I’m not gonna lie the narrator started off a bit whiny sounding, and it made me not want to keep going. I was given this book for free to review so I pushed through. I am so glad I did! After the first chapter the narrator changed her approach and didn’t sound whiny anymore. I had to go back to the beginning when I was done just to make sure I wasn’t making it up. I really enjoyed this book, enough so that I have already bought the second one to continue. I did not see the end coming and I need to know what happens next!
