About this listen

From NYT bestselling author Rachel Gillig comes the next big romantasy sensation, a gothic, mist-cloaked tale of a young prophetess forced on an impossible quest with the one knight whose future is beyond her sight. Perfect for fans of Jennifer L. Armentrout and Leigh Bardugo.

Sybil Delling has spent nine years dreaming of having no dreams at all. Like the other foundling girls who traded a decade of service for a home in the great cathedral, Sybil is a Diviner. In her dreams she receives visions from six unearthly figures known as Omens. From them, she can predict terrible things before they occur, and lords and common folk alike travel across the kingdom of Traum’s windswept moors to learn their futures by her dreams.

Just as she and her sister Diviners near the end of their service, a mysterious knight arrives at the cathedral. Rude, heretical, and devilishly handsome, the knight Rodrick has no respect for Sybil's visions. But when Sybil's fellow Diviners begin to vanish one by one, she has no choice but to seek his help in finding them. For the world outside the cathedral’s cloister is wrought with peril. Only the gods have the answers she is seeking, and as much as she'd rather avoid Rodrick's dark eyes and sharp tongue, only a heretic can defeat a god.

Critic reviews

"I’m obsessed with Rachel Gillig. The Knight and the Moth is achingly romantic, richly imagined, and told with a gossamer delicacy that keeps the pages flying."—Hannah Whitten, author of The Foxglove King
"With the headiness of dreams and the darkness of haunted abbeys, The Knight and the Moth is a dazzlingly transportive tale of love, salvation, and freedom that cements Gillig as one of the finest fantasy writers of our age. You will never want to surface from these enchanting, depthless waters."—Ava Reid, #1 New York Times bestselling author of A Study in Drowning

“A gothic, romantic fairytale that feels like falling into a dark, strange dream—one you won’t want to wake from. With twisty parables, monstrous divinities, a slow-burn romance and magic with a deadly cost, the story of The Knight and the Moth unfolds like peeling back a gossamer shroud. Gillig has done it again—I’m obsessed.”—Amélie Wen Zhao, New York Times bestselling author of Song of Silver, Flame Like Night

I REALLY wish I would have realized this series wasn't complete before starting this book. it had me by the throat since chapter one. athe character buikding, amazing. The voice acting, 10/10. The action, top notch. The romance, slow, beautiful build. The freaking twist at the end?! Heartwrenching. the only thing I'm upset about with this book is that there isn't already another one out. I also wish there was a bit more spice during the romance scenes, but the build up to it was so teasing. All in all a FANTASTIC read and I highly recommend it.

Fantastic Storyline and Really Lovable Main Character.

The biggest wow of this story was how authentic the personalities were. Romantic storyline made sense and was both fun and touching and … sigh.
Magical world surprised me with originality. The whole story surprised me, to be honest.
Can’t say I foresaw the ending which left me upset but also glad when I saw there’s a second book to follow.
Some truly beautiful scenes. Some parts were basic or ordinary but just loved the friendships and conversations.
Some almost painfully true insights about life sprinkled in too.
I didn’t care for author’s previous series. But this one was plain wow.
I’m thrilled with narrator when I don’t even think about the narration.
So wish I could find more books like this, of any of genres I enjoy.

Original imaginative moving - a rare find

This feels like a new classic. To be discussed and enjoyed over and over again. The narration is incredible and I was truly sad when it was over.

A masterpiece

This story is a fairy tale, and is written like one. Don’t expect this book to be told like current romantasys, but instead a refreshing take on a truly unique fantasy world being the main focus and some romance woven in.

Good story, though starts a little slow. The prose and the narrator’s voice are beautiful

It's been awhile since I listened to a book and I didn't want it to end. I loved this book! I metered it out to myself. I want so many books to be shorter, thinking many chapters to be superfluous. I wanted this one to be much longer. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for book two.
The first few chapters seem a slow, and a little confusing, but it all makes sense in the end. It’s so sad, but the writing was so good! (Rachel Gillig will be receiving a lot more of my time.) The story was wonderfully new and refreshing! Nothing even close to the same old, same old. It had just the right amount of everything, humor, romance, sex, tears, love, and surprises. Please don’t change that. The narration was perfect! I did guess the end about midway through, but there were many surprises that shocked me. I loved both the MC, and the Gargoyle, very early on and even more at the end. Broke my heart just a little. I loved all the characters, the good, the bad, and the ugly. I want to read the next one so badly but I’m content to wait…and savor this one for a bit. Sigh…

I’m torn between the writing and the story, both 5 stars!

Great Character-and World-building

Right from the introduction, I was glued to the story. The narrator's voice fits perfectly to the main character(s) and I was at the edge of my seat nearly every chapter.

Sheer Captivation

Full of story. Not a spicy story, slow burn. Something different to read and was absolutely enjoyable from beginning to end. Dark Garthic romance. 🩶

Loved it!
