About this listen
No one likes Jack. His wife is gone and his neighbors avoid him. He's a recluse and a creep, and that's just the way he wants it; he can ignore what they say behind his back if they leave him to his work and his daily walks. But when ten-year-old Emma goes missing in the nearby woods, the eyes of his neighbors turn toward him, their fear and accusations escalating as the days go by. Jack proclaims his innocence, but what the neighbors - and the listener - find out is the last thing anyone would suspect.

It all begins with a father telling a story to his son on Christmas Eve. But this isn't your typical Christmas story. The father admits to his son that he's taken a life but he won't say whose - not yet. One week earlier, in a hospital late at night, the man met a five-year-old girl with cancer. She's a smart kid - smart enough to know that she won't beat cancer by drawing with crayons all day, but it seems to make the adults happy, so she keeps doing it.

Awesome short story. Fabulous narration..
OMG! The last paragraph of this short story made the whole story about a missing 11 year old worth reading. I was absolutely flabbergasted.
Jacks neighbors thought he’d taken Emma and killed her, because he worked from home and was a little weird. Anyway, Jack found the girl but it didn’t seem to matter to his neighbors, they still treated him like crap.
I really can’t tell you much more without telling the whole short story and you really need to read this.
The F-bomb was used 1 time.
This was a free read and free listen from Amazon.
As to the narration: Love, love, love Luke Daniels. He brings everything he reads to life.

The title is a bit misleading in that the word kindness is tongue in cheek, but The Kindness of Neighbors is a wonderful short story. Luke Daniels does a great job of narration.
