Andy MacTavish accepts the appointment of interim Judge for the municipal court. He doesn’t realize that the law director of the County seat, who also serves as prosecutor, has been sent there by a combination of Toledo and Detroit underworld figures to gain control of the local law enforcement. Apparently they plan on setting up illegal ventures in the town and the mob needs to have the law director hold the position of Judge. That’s when Andy knows he is in trouble.
This story is set in a small town in a rural Ohio county. Thierry has created some interesting characters similar to some that seem to show up in small town stories. MacTavish and his wife are busy campaigning for reelection going door to door and attending Firemen’s breakfasts and so on. I found the array of characters coming though the court fascinating. The opponent is setting certain cases up to trap or put the Judge in a difficult position but so far Andy has come up with creative solutions to the legal problems or sentences. Contrary to the impression implied by having a mod attempting to take over, the book is more light hearted and a fun story of a small town.
I found the story a delight to read and just a great get away from it all book. Rusty Nelson is the narrator of the book.
