About this listen
She wanted the perfect wedding. But someone would kill to keep them apart....
Taking a deep breath of the fresh, leafy air, Abigail promises herself: Today she is going to make her parents accept her future husband Pete’s family.
She’s planned three days away from it all in a beautiful, forested nature reserve. Out here, with almost no one else around, their families will have nowhere to run. They might have clashed from the moment they met—with their stark differences in backgrounds and personalities—but now, Abigail thinks, they will have to get along.
They barely have a chance to bond though, before the trip starts to go wrong. Precious possessions go astray, including Abigail’s father’s medicine; dark family secrets are exposed; and threatening messages are found. One says, "Watch your back...."
Abigail had been so sure that getting them all together and showing everyone that she and Pete are the perfect couple was the answer to all their problems. But the wedding isn’t the only thing under threat.
Because one of their party won’t make it out alive....
A completely and utterly gripping psychological thriller, perfect for fans of Gone Girl, The Marriage, and The Silent Patient.

Story
Moving to Prospect Close has been everything I’d hoped for. In the city, Oliver and I barely saw each other, irritable at home and rushing around after the kids. But here, the neighbors have been so friendly and welcoming, and we’re now at barbeques and playdates every weekend, all together, as a family. It’s the type of life I always dreamed of. One that’s a million miles from...before. Not that Oliver would know anything about that.

My husband is a doctor. He’s smart and charming, and everybody trusts him. Except me. On the surface, it looks like I have it all–the perfect marriage, the perfect husband, the perfect life. But it’s far from the truth. Doctor Drew Devlin is not the respectable figure he makes out to be. The reason we moved to this beautiful, old property with a gorgeous view of the sea was because we needed to put our past behind us. It should’ve been a fresh start for us both.

I open the creaking oak front door of my beautiful country house to see a stranger on my doorstep. The woman is stunning with glossy red hair and flawless make up. "Can I help you?" I ask. That was my first mistake. Alexis tells me she is a distant relative and shows me a DNA match on her phone. She has no family and would love to get to know us. My husband Hugh invites her in to join our dinner party. As we drink wine, she opens up about her sad childhood. Her amber eyes are mesmerizing, and I can see my husband is being drawn in by her story. Then she asks for our help.

Sister in law
I had to listen to this book because my sister in laws name is also Laura Wolfe. I am glad that I did. I really like psychological thrillers. I’m a little concerned though, did they ever find his body? I was expecting him to show back up at the end.

Very well written
This story was great. The different perspectives from the characters was good, but the narrator didn't do very well changing her voice to indicate the new perspective was male which made it a little confusing at first.
I was hooked on the story right from the start. It's been a long time that a story has kept me in it and caught me off guard so many times. Loved it.

Well it’s ok its very long and drags on its predictable not very suspenseful either. The beginning seemed good and the middle to the end fizzled out. It’s a good background story when doing other things.

Meh..
I listened to the entirety of the story, so it did keep me captivated enough. However, there were just too many moving pieces, too many angles, and not in the "oh my goodness there are so many twists that keep you guessing!" kind of way. And the reminiscing portion just seemed a little out of place for where it was included in the book. I did guess early on who was truly behind it, but again, too many moving pieces. And while the narrator did an adequate job delivering the story, she isn't really my favorite. At times it seemed a little monotonous/flat in delivery. It needed more inflection or something. I listened to it while working, so it did help pass the time while I was intrigued enough to find out how it ended, but overall I was not really impressed.

Predictable
I don't know if it's a me thing...maybe I need to swap genres for a while, but I saw where this was going from very early on. I clocked every twist that made sense. There were some threads that went nowhere, and a couple twists that had no reasonable lead-ups, but I knew the main villain from very early on and knew several of the things that happened well before they happened. I also had a hard time empathizing with the protagonist because she brought a lot of it on herself, and her motives for doing so made very little sense. I understand being a people pleaser. I spent most of my life being one. Never in my most people pleasing of people pleasing days would I have ever taken such drastic measures to avoid a conflict. Her disappearing and starting a new life to avoid drama would have been less drastic than what she did, and with less potential for harmful outcome...but then we wouldn't have had a story, and that's problematic for me. When the whole premise of the story is built on one massively nonsensical decision made by the protagonist, the whole plot is questionable. This story just didn't do much for me. That said, I enjoy the general writing style of the author, and enjoyed the last story I read from her, so I will give her another shot.

6/10 stars rating. Narrator was nasally & i couldn’t finish book
For me narrator ruined it. Maybe the ending got better but I just kept waiting! Nothing really happened. I stopped a little less than half way through. I’d be happier if this was free, but not worth a credit for me.

Fast-paced and engaging
This twisty tale would be perfect for a road trip. Initially, I found the premise (getting prospective in-laws to like each other by taking them all on a camping trip) to be totally absurd--but the perspective changed frequently as the story progressed. I suspect that a week after finishing the book, I'll have few lingering memories about it.

Good Story Interesting Twists
How can you not be intrigued when the summary says two families go on the adventure but one person does not make it out. Immediately it becomes a game of collecting the clues. I was very surprised and the subplots were excellent the way they were so seamlessly woven into the story. Character development was well done. Emotions flew off the pages.

I gave up on this book when one character began reading tarot cards. The crystals and palm reading wasn’t enough, apparently. Wish I could get my money back.
