About this listen
Murdered contortionists aren't exactly what Vivienne signed up for when she ran away to join the circus. But like most things under the big top, nothing is what it seems. With a past she can't quite remember, Vivienne finds that running away forever might not be as appealing as it once sounded - because forever means something quite different at the Cirque des Immortels.
Aided by her friends Kingston - a feisty stage magician whose magic is quickly stealing her heart - and his sarcastic assistant Melody, Vivienne finds herself racing against the clock to discover the culprit behind a series of deaths that should be impossible. However, the answer she seeks might reveal more about her own bloody past - and future - than she bargains for.
The show's just beginning. Step right up....

On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King - who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer - takes listeners on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.

It has been 20 years since the end of the war. The dictatorial Augurs, once thought of almost as gods, were overthrown and wiped out during the conflict, their much-feared powers mysteriously failing them. Those who had ruled under them, men and women with a lesser ability known as the Gift, avoided the Augurs' fate only by submitting themselves to the rebellion's Four Tenets.

Story
The Hematoi descend from the unions of gods and mortals, and the children of two Hematoi-pure-bloods-have godlike powers. Children of Hematoi and mortals-well, not so much. Half-bloods only have two options: Become trained Sentinels who hunt and kill daimons or become servants in the homes of the pures. Seventeen-year-old Alexandria would rather risk her life fighting than waste it scrubbing toilets, but she may end up slumming it anyway.

Intriguing and Imaginative
There is a great quality to this story. Some great characters, a solid premise and a world waiting outside of this initial story. I've seen a lot of reviews state that they feel it was lacking something. I'm not sure what it would be, I kept coming back. It was a lot like Carnivale from HBO, set in the current day, and mixing it with a dose of fae and other things.
The narrator enunciates every syllable though, which kind of made it hard to feel like I was in the story instead of being read a story.

mystical story
I enjoyed the book, but was a little put off by all the swear words. lots of F**** that added nothing to the story line, and detracted from the story in my opinion. The love interest part was a little weak, almost like the author thought the story wasn't enough in itself and it was necessary to add a very odd romance. It was entertaining, but I probably won't read the next book in the series.

Good story, couldn't stand the narrator
The story was great. Interesting, character development, wide opened for a series. I'll be sure to read the next one!
The narrator made me want to stop listening. Unnecessary voice pitches, and every character except for the main one sounded like a "valley girl". Very irritating and grating.

Overall I enjoyed this book. The Audible reading was a definitely a little fast but I got used to it after a couple of chapters. The story kept me on the edge of my seat and the characters good. I look forward to reading the other books in the series.

Narrator is awesome. Story has lots of secrets and keeps you guessing. It does have an ending but still leaves questions. Good for me the trilogy is already written. The next trilogy is good also.

Best carnival story since "Something Wicked This Way Comes"
It all begins as a mistery plot, with a touch of "Miss Marple". But then it evolves in a very "Bradburesque" undertone. Couldn't wait to see the end, can't wait to buy and read the other books of the saga.
Fantastic entertainment for 14 yr or older. Would require C1/C2 English language proficiency.
Narration's quite adequated, I could neatly read/hear at 1,25 speed. Rythm and expression of narrator helps to get into the plot.
Excellent work.

Slow start, hard to get into but gets better
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
This book was very hard to get into and lacked direction till the end. However, second book gets more into the story.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
The concept is good but not strong. Second book is more embracive and worth reading the first.
What does Amy McFadden bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
She does a great job with Lilith character and overall great will all the voices. She paints a good picture.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
Yes, I would like to see this as a movie. I believe it could be amazing if produced right.

Enjoyable Quick Listen
What did you love best about The Immortal Circus?
So, I accidentally read the first book of the sequel trilogy, Pale Queen Rising, before listening to The Immortal Circus. But it kind of worked. It made me want more backstory. So I came to listen to The Immortal Circus, and it did not fail to deliver. I was constantly surprised, confused, excited. It was interesting and had just enough twists to keep you wanting more.
What did you like best about this story?
See above
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
Since this is the second book I've listened to narrated by Amy McFadden, I have gotten used to her style. I enjoy it now. She has a frank, wry style of narration. It works for these characters.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
"Welcome to the Circus, where all your dreams become nightmares."
