About this listen
The chilling and captivating novel from the NUMBER ONE bestselling author of The Lost Notebook
When Edie’s mother-in-law, Anna DeLuca, dies, she is relieved.
Edie blames Anna for the accident that destroyed her family. So, when her will lures Edie to Sicily and the long-abandoned Villa della Madonna del Mare, she sees through Anna’s games.
Suspecting Anna is meddling from beyond the grave to try to reunite her and her ex-husband Joe, Edie is determined to leave Italy as soon as possible. But before she can, the villa starts to shed its mysterious secrets.
Who are the girls beside Anna in her childhood photos, and why has one of them been scratched out? Why does someone, or something, want them to leave the past untouched? The villa is a place where old ghosts feel at home, but does their legacy need to be laid to rest before Edie and Joe can move on…
Bestselling author Louise Douglas returns with a captivating, chilling and unforgettable tale of betrayal, jealousy and the mysteries hidden in every family history.

Good story!
Very creative, well thought out. Nice exposure to Sicily, which I've not previously had. I could relate to the experience of losing a child, how that never stops being haunting. Narration was excellent.

Good story
Part romance, part mystery. This story kept my interest and made me want to visit Sicily. I expect I’ll want to read more books by this author.

Great book club book
This story had so much to it and would make a great book club book. I couldn’t stop listening! I caught myself holding my breath several times. This book to me was mainly about forgiveness and acceptance. Such a great story of love, tragedy, suspense and loss.

Sad but lovely
In the beginning, I found it hard to like, much less sympathize with the main characters. They seemed shallow, unhappy and unappealing. As the book progressed, they became more appealing. The ending wrapped everything nicely. It’s a good “summer” read, not terribly deep, but entertaining.

House by the Sea
At first I thought this book was going to be too sad for me. But as it moved along with all its twists and turns and changes, it became more and more interesting. I had trouble to stop listening to it. I'm glad it all worked out. I would like to travel to a place in Italy similar to this house.
I loved the person who was reading the book. Her accent fit exactly with the book.
