About this listen
The wonderful second memoir from Susan Duncan, which picks up where Salvation Creek ended. The House at Salvation Creek picks up after Bob and Susan marry and, two years later, move from her Tin Shed into his 'pale yellow house on the high, rough hill', Tarrangaua, built for the iconic Australian poet Dorothea Mackellar.
Set against the backdrop of the small, close-knit Pittwater community with its colourful characters and quirky history, The House at Salvation Creek is about what happens when you open the door to life, adventure and love. But it's also about mothers and daughters, as Susan confronts her mother's new frailty and her own role in what has always been a difficult relationship.
Where Salvation Creek was about mortality - living life in the face of death - The House at Salvation Creek is about stepping outside your comfort zone and embracing challenges at any age. In turn funny and moving, Susan Duncan's beautifully written sequel reminds us to honour what matters in life and to disregard what really doesn't.

On the morning of December 26, 2004, on the southern coast of Sri Lanka, Sonali Deraniyagala lost her parents, her husband, and her two young sons in the tsunami she miraculously survived. In this brave and searingly frank memoir, she describes those first horrifying moments and her long journey since. Story
In the spirit of Zoë Heller’s Notes on a Scandal and Tom Perrotta’s Mrs. Fletcher, an explosive and thought-provoking novel about the far-reaching repercussions of an illicit relationship between a young girl and a man 20 years her senior. Masterfully told from three diverse viewpoints - victim, perpetrator, and witness - Putney is a subtle and enormously powerful novel about consent, agency, and what we tell ourselves to justify what we do, and what others do to us.

Inspiring true story of living life well
I was given the paper back version of the first book Salvation Creek and couldn't put it down. Audible had the series so I listened to second - The House at Salvation Creek. It reminded me to schedule time away from work, to enjoy life, the company of others, giving the gift of food, time, friendship, love. A book about life and death and realising what living is about. When things seem to be rock bottom, to never give up and be amazed with what or who you attract next in your life. It also reminded me of the great Aussie way of life which makes you smile, laugh and just get on with it. Highly recommended.
