What listeners say about The High Kâhl's Oath

Highly rated for:

The Book Introduces The Leagues Of Votann, A New Faction Of Space Dwarves In The Warhammer 40k Universe. While Praised For Its Detailed Worldbuilding And Insight Into The Kin Society, The Story Itself Is Criticized For Its Slow Pacing, Excessive Exposition, And A Weak Protagonist. The Plot Follows A Coming-of-age, Treasure Hunting Adventure But Is Seen As Predictable And Lacking Depth By Some Readers. Despite The Flaws, Many Enjoyed The Engaging Adventure And Satisfying Climax, Finding It A Decent Introduction To This New Faction.

Took em long enough

It’s fine, but for how long it took them to make this, I was hoping for more. It introduces you to a character for one of the great leagues, shows you the relationship the kin have towards each other, and sets up a future plot.

Not bad not great

It just felt like a pretty generic story that gave little story or real world building to the Votann faction. First 3/4 of the book were very slow and the last 1/4 had an alright climax with some corny moments. Any non Imperium factions always get subpar books so they are consistent in that much.

good first dive into the Kin

Not once did someone try to sound like the Scottsman from Samuri Jack!!! other than that, wonderful book.

Good Lore establishment; lack luster story

Overall I enjoyed that the book established a lot about Kin society and they think and behave, which is something. the faction was really needing. Unfortunately, outside of that, I found the characters and story very boring and difficult to care about. It spends a lot of time re-establishing itself over and over only for what felt like a very half baked climax.
I would recommend it to anyone who wants a better understanding of Votann and Kin on a lore level, but would not recommend to anyone else really.

It's Okay

For the first book about the Votann I'm a bit disappointed in it. Story didn't really go anywhere and was largely forgettable.

Narration is dry

Story is meh but at least it’s some form of Votann lore. Narration is very dry

Slow start, but a fine story

Bit of a slow start but gets going towards the middle. If like me you want to know more about that League's society and thoughts, it is 5/5. if you want story about the kin, 3/5. they aren't bad but aren't that compelling.

Excited for more Votann except….

I DNF’d this one so bear that in mind but I couldn’t handle the narrator anymore or the terrible main character. Very cool getting to see the Leagues and the battles made me want models but otherwise I just couldn’t listen anymore

Fantastic!

Story and narration were great, but could have used a more notable pause during scene changes.
