About this listen
The odious Jeanette Sobriquet is dead and her granddaughter, Fizzy, is too relieved to grieve. Unfortunately for her, when Fizzy announces her refusal to attend the abusive woman’s funeral, her life becomes a living nightmare. Now, she has demons, ghosts, and the threat of homelessness hunting her down, all demanding she caves into the dead woman’s iron will.
Bar owner Affidious Dixon is forced to carry out Fizzy’s dead grandmother’s last requests; otherwise, the ghost of the Bosnian war criminal that is following him around will murder his mother.
The Grimy & the Greedy is a comedic paranormal thriller about one woman’s fight to save herself from tyrannical death customs and one man’s journey to save his mother from pure evil.

Story
The intoxication from a pint of vodka, the electric buzz from snorting cocaine, the warm embrace from shooting heroin - drinking and drugging provide the height of human experience. It's the promise of heaven on earth, but the hell that follows is a constant hunger, a cold emptiness. The craving to get high is a yearning as intense of any blood-thirsty monster. The stories inside feature the insidious nature of addiction told with compassion yet searing honesty.

Gritty and Unique
Curley pulls no punches. I like that there are no perfect characters. Despite the presence of the supernatural, everyone feels really human in the worst way possible, but that's the point. This is a gritty story that deals with real human issues wrapped in a thin layer of magic. I think I'd have enjoyed a physical book more, but that's not on the writing at all. This is an absolute palette cleanser in the opposite way it's normally used. If you've been reading a lot of airy, happy books, this one will ground you. It's a breath of fresh air and the epitome of quality dark literature.
