About this listen

Originally published in 1651 at London by New England puritan, Peter Bulkeley, and never republished until now. The Gospel Covenant was his most important work, originating from this pulpit sermons to his congregation at Concord in New England. It also includes a To the Reader by his better known contemporary, Thomas Shepard. In this work Mr. Bulkeley explains that salvation is conveyed by covenant. “That whatsoever salvation and deliverance God gives unto his people in setting them free from this misery, he doth it by virtue of, and according to his covenant.” The bulk of the book is in comparing and contrasting the old and the new testaments, or the covenant of grace and the covenant of works. He also covers how to enter into covenant with God, and how to determine if indeed this has taken place. This book is important for the church today that we might have a clear understanding of the whole of the Bible, how it all fits together to form one central message from God. It is vital that we hear voices that are not a part of our time or culture that we might have an outside critique of the present state of the church today. Christianity Salvation Theory Theology
