About this listen
Suburbia. Shady, tree-lined streets; well-tended lawns; and cozy homes. A nice, quiet place to grow up. Unless you are teenage Meg or her crippled sister, Susan.
On a dead-end street, in the dark, damp basement of the Chandler house, Meg and Susan are left captive to the savage whims and rages of a distant aunt who is rapidly descending into madness. It is a madness that infects all three of her sons and finally the entire neighborhood. Only one troubled boy stands hesitantly between Meg and Susan and their cruel, torturous deaths. A boy with a very adult decision to make....

Story
To serial slayer Andrew Compton, murder is an art, the most intimate art. After feigning his own death to escape from prison, Compton makes his way to the United States with the sole ambition of bringing his “art” to new heights. Tortured by his own perverse desires, and drawn to possess and destroy young boys, Compton inadvertently joins forces with Jay Byrne, a dissolute playboy who has pushed his “art” to limits even Compton hadn’t previously imagined.

Story
Celeste Price is an eighth-grade English teacher in suburban Tampa. But Celeste's devotion lies elsewhere. She has a singular sexual obsession: 14-year-old boys. In slaking her sexual thirst, Celeste Price is remorseless and deviously free of hesitation, a monstress driven by pure motivation. She deceives everyone, and cares nothing for anyone or anything but her own pleasure. With crackling, rampantly unadulterated prose, Tampa is a grand, uncompromising, seriocomic examination of want and a scorching literary debut.

Raised in a household so filthy it was stomach-spilling, Vera involuntarily evolved into a neat freak. Upon discovering she and her disabled husband, Daniel, are expecting, she needs fast cash. Her obsession with cleanliness sprouts the concept that her skills can be put to use in a unique way. She takes a stab at the booming door-to-door vacuum sales business of 1988. All is going well until she arrives at the steps of a house that will change her forever. The steps of an evil that resurrects the ghastly memories she so desperately tried to wash away.

Three low-income families have been given a handsome retainer to join Geraldine Borden for a day at her cliffside estate. All the parents must do to collect the rest of their money is allow their children to test out the revolutionary playground equipment Geraldine has been working on for decades. But there’s a reason the structures in the bowels of her gothic castle have taken so long to develop—they were never meant to see the light of day.

Working at the local processing plant, Marcos is in the business of slaughtering humans - though no one calls them that anymore. His wife has left him, his father is sinking into dementia, and Marcos tries not to think too hard about how he makes a living. After all, it happened so quickly. First, it was reported that an infectious virus has made all animal meat poisonous to humans. Then governments initiated the "Transition". Now, eating human meat - "special meat" - is legal. Story
Deep in the heart of Appalachia stands a crooked farmhouse miles from any road. The Morrows keep to themselves, and it's served them well so far. When girls go missing off the side of the highway, the cops don't knock on their door. Which is a good thing, seeing what's buried in the Morrows' backyard. But 19-year-old Michael Morrow isn't like the rest of his family. He doesn't take pleasure in the screams that echo through the trees.

Story
Once every year, Scoutmaster Tim Riggs leads a troop of boys into the Canadian wilderness for a weekend camping trip - a tradition as comforting and reliable as a good ghost story around a roaring bonfre. The boys are a tight-knit crew. There’s Kent, one of the most popular kids in school; Ephraim and Max, also well-liked and easygoing; then there’s Newt the nerd and Shelley the odd duck. For the most part, they all get along and are happy to be there - which makes Scoutmaster Tim’s job a little easier.

Featured Article: The top 100 horror books of all time
This list encompasses the full spectrum of what horror can be—campfire-worthy tales, stomach-churning gore, and incisive social commentary. The classics are accounted for, but it also spotlights more recent titles, because that’s the nature of the genre—it is as perennial as it is ever-evolving, conjuring whatever frights most haunt our collective consciousness. Each title does have one thing in common: It makes for devilishly good listening. So cut the lights and press play—if you dare.

Suffer the Children presents a terrifying tale of apocalyptic fiction, as listeners are introduced to Herod's Syndrome, a devastating illness that suddenly and swiftly kills all young children across the globe. Soon, they return from the grave, and ask for blood. And with blood, they stop being dead. They continue to remain the children they once were, but only for a short time, as they need more blood to live. The average human body holds 10 pints of blood, so the inevitable question for parents everywhere becomes: How far would you go to bring your child back?

Story
It's the Arizona Territory. The year, 1848. The year the Mexican War ended. Fate and blazing pistols have just thrown together reporter and part-time drunk Marion T. Bell and the very nearly legendary John Charles Hart, mustanger and scout, in the Little Fanny Saloon. Plying the river-trade across the Colorado to the gold fields of California in the north, and war-torn Mexico to the south, the town of Gable's Ferry has sprung up overnight-lacking only a church, a schoolhouse and a jail.

Ladies' Night is a non-stop rollercoaster ride of sheer nerve rattling terror, previously deemed too violent for mass market publication. In this modern tale of the ages-old battle of the sexes carried to the extreme, Jack Ketchum again provides readers with an excursion into horror as relentless as a John Woo film.

He doesn't take pleasure in the screams that echo through the trees.

i wonder too
went in looking for something dark and disturbing to keep my attention. I recieved that on top of great story and even greater characters. Ketchum captured the innocence and the idea of how a childs mind works wrapping it into a slow moving car accident (no pun intended) that is impossible to look away from. This book makes you feel gross, but you also leave with something greater than the obvious themes it is going for. Vaguely reminded me of 'the long walk' for indirect reasons i cant put my finger on, maybe its just the vibe and how it comes off(in a good way). 9 out of 10

When will it end
I am currently questioning why I like reading & watching horror & true crime.
This story started out slow as if it was a coming of age story, I stuck with it and eventually became so engrossed in the storyline, I couldn’t stop listening & begging for it to end.
Absolutely horrific!
I am left with an overwhelming sense of loss & sadness. I feel as if I am carrying this little girl with me throughout my daily tasks.
If you see or believe there is abuse happening please speak up & for the love of God teach your children to do the same.

Chill, it’s not that bad
I read the other reviews and decided to give this book a listen. It’s not as depraved as others say it is, it’s pretty tame. Sure it’s disturbing content, but it’s not as horrible as others claim it to be.
It’s a good book with an interesting story. I feel that with it being narrated by the author, the author knows where to put emphasis and so on in his own writing. There is the occasional clicking others say in their reviews, but it’s infrequent and tolerable. Give this book a listen, it’s well written!

Well done, very dark
While it is a very good piece and very well narrated by the author, however, it was extremely dark in subject matter. Ketchum’s work is often categorized in the horror genre and this work definitely fits that bill. I found it interesting in how the author delved into childhood trauma from a time period in the last century. Trauma that is both witnessed and experienced. And how it impacts the child that grows into an adult. Ketchum did a detailed job depicting his main character’s morality as a child and as an adult.

Excellent reading of an excellent book
I strongly recommend this audiobook.
This was hard to listen to. The narrator was excellent. He should be once it was read by the author. But the content is strong, and you can feel the suffering inside your mind, at least I could. I found myself unable to stop listening but at the same time found it difficult to continue. I suppose that's good considering the content. That's great for any book.

Very sad
This story left me very conflicted. The narrator was great, and in some ways I just could not stop reading, or listening. But the story was sad, violent, and gruesome. I just could not believe that the main character David, could not, or did not do anything to really stop the torture

My flesh was definitely crawling for a few chapter
There is a struggle to finish but not because it's bad but because it is very messed up. I can honestly say that I haven't had anything hit me this hard in a while. It's rough...
