About this listen
Are you a smart high achiever who suffers from anxiety or depression? Do people say you’re too sensitive? Do noisy crowds, conflicts and brash people irritate you? Does your heart ache when loved ones don’t emotionally connect with you? Do you want to find your true authentic self?
If you struggle with a highly sensitive personality, this memoir and collection of stories will help you heal and flourish.
Benita A. Esposito is a licensed professional counselor and best-selling author with four decades of professional experience. Even smart high-achievers have themes on their hero’s journey to the authentic self, and these were hers.
What unconsciously drew her to an emotionally distant relationship or an emotionally abusive relationship? Why did she feel so hurt when others judged her? Why was she so tired? What compelled her toward self actualization?
Anguish motivated Esposito to find the most effective emotional healing techniques so she could lead a high-quality life. Adult attachment theory nudged her to dive deeper into healing childhood wounds so she could experience fulfilling relationships.
When Esposito squelched the search for romance, her core transformation began. She summoned the courage to ferret out her deepest fears, cultivate self-compassion, and develop deeper intimacy with God. As she learned to manage the challenges of being an introvert, an intuitive empath and a highly sensitive person, calmness replaced anxiety and perfectionism.
The Gifted Highly Sensitive Introvert: Wisdom for Emotional Healing and Expressing Your Radiant Authentic Self will help you feel whole regardless of your external circumstances. You’ll receive expert guidance to navigate your hero’s journey to your true authentic self through stories told with vulnerability and transparency.

Story
Everyone has a sensitive side, but nearly one in three people have the genes to be more sensitive than others—both physically and emotionally. These are the people who pause before speaking and think before acting; they tune in to subtle details and make connections that others miss. Whether introverted or extroverted, they tend to be bighearted, creative, and wired to go deep, yet society tells them to hide the very sensitivity that makes them this way. These are the world’s “highly sensitive people,” and Sensitive is the book that champions them.

Story
The Introvert Advantage dispels common myths about introverts - they’re not necessarily shy, aloof, or antisocial - and explains how they are hardwired from birth to focus inward, so outside stimulation such as chitchat, phone calls, parties, or office meetings can easily become "too much". Most importantly, it thoroughly refutes many introverts’ belief that something is wrong with them. Instead, it helps them recognize their inner strengths - their analytical skills, ability to think outside the box, and strong powers of concentration.

Mostly a biography, but helpful
This book arrived at the right time in my life when I am needing to make some changes so that my job will fit with my personality in a way that is meaningful and authentic to me. The book encouraged me that it’s ok to be where I am right now, feeling completely different than I did a year ago, and ok to honor myself and what I am feeling. The book was a confirmation of sorts, and gave me permission to do what I have to do for myself, to be healthy.

Not alone, valued as my Authentic Self
I am so thankful this author came out with an audiobook version of this awesome book! Since reading, and now listening to, Esposito's account of her life as a HSI, I have felt more supported, validated and valued than I ever have before. It's not just her life, it's decades of evidence-based research about MY life that make it nearly impossible to put down or pause. If you're a HSP or introvert (or know one!) I highly recommend this book/audiobook.

This book brings insight to life and marriage!
One of the greatest attractions to this book and it's author is the courage that she had to allow us to share the struggles, hardships, joy, pain, abuses and the great love that has evolved from the experiences in her life. The insight she has given to the reader through complete vulnerability of herself is a gift that can help everyone in life's journey. I am 60, my wife is 57 and we have 5 children. Our lives have been very difficult at times. We are still learning how to care and love for each other while trying not to let life's difficulties tear us apart. There's an abundance of wisdom and spiritual support in this book that will help us in our marriage and keep our hearts close to one another.

This is a light to finding yourself
I have just recently begun my Hero's Journey with the awareness of what I was actually doing. Before I was stumbling down a path, stopping, looking around and wondering why I struggled so to move forward. I know now that my self-esteem had taken a beating due to circumstances in my adult life. I had a hard time setting boundaries to help keep my emotional self safe. I feel that this book offers insights into how our choices (and also other peoples choices in relation to us) can shape our existence. There is no judgement in this book...only understanding that everyone's journey is personal and that hopefully there is something you can take from it to help in your personal journey.
I admit I have only just begun reading/listening to this book (I have both the softcover copy and the audible version), but I am finding so much of myself in these pages. I have read several chapters...not in order...and I can find valuable "nuggets" in each of those chapters.
I commend Ms. Esposito for having the courage to boldly tell her story of her Journey or journeys as the case may be, in order to help those of us who fall into the category of GHSI. I never even realized such a description existed before finding this book. I am looking forward to exploring more of the Heros Journey and understanding GHSI even more.
Speaking to the audible version of this book...I quite enjoy the rhythm and gentleness of the speaker's voice. The emotion comes through beautifully in the audible version.

The title says it all and delivers in spades.
I love this book! The author has done a brilliant job of explaining a highly sensitive introvert's plight, for which I could totally relate. The way in which the author married her valuable life learnings with her knowledge of psychology, through her personal stories, kept me engaged and wanting to hear more. The reflection section at the end of the chapters gives the reader the opportunity to delve deeper into their own thoughts, beliefs, and experiences, making it practical with the potential to evoke profound realizations. The greatest message is how to live your authentic self... Read it for yourself. You'll be inspired and enlightened.

This book is truly for open hearted and brave minded people.
I believe God (Jesus) placed this book into my path. I was going through a period in my life where I knew I had lost myself in my marriage. I felt completely as though I was someone else. While reading this book I felt like Benita understood me. I feel like her life was similar to mine which made me feel safe to continue reading the book. I feel like I didn’t have to hide my emotions or the things I was thinking because the author expressed having thought the exact same things. I felt like I wasn’t going to be judged because of what I was going through because the author had went to the extent of even sharing similar/even worse experiences. This book challenged me to question my future and past. This book also helped me forgive and also seek forgiveness from others. I consider this book to be one of the most dear books to me. I enjoyed all this book helped me overcome challenges in my relationships with friends and family, romantic relationships, and acquaintances.
What I liked about this book was that I was able to journal my thoughts out in the questions were so mind intriguing that I was so excited you answered the journal questions. I also liked her honesty and transparency in this book about her personal circle of friends and family and her career. I really enjoyed the breath/meditation work that she included in the book. I also enjoyed her honesty about having been divorceda multiple of times, as I was experiencing the same.
Here are a few things I didn’t necessarily quite connect with completely in the book. Although I wouldn’t say it was something I disliked just something I didn’t quite understand all the time.
There were times in this book I felt slightly uncomfortable because, I wasn’t sure of what spirtual background the author was taking into account when referencing certain voices/practices. There were moments of inconsistency in belief system, but I enjoyed going on that journey with her through the book as well even though it felt uncomfortable for me as a Christian. Towards the end I was able to get a sense that she had found a spiritual space that fit her authentic self. I definitely could relate to this because although I identify as a Christian I am not a traditional Christian, meaning I do not necessarily only cater to my relationship with Jesus by going to church. If you are traditional Christian reading this book be ready to be challenged spiritually. This book is truly for open hearted and brave minded people.
I would recommend this book to anybody despite your religious background. I would recommend this book to people who want to really discover their authentic self, people who feel like they’ve lost themselves, people feel like they’ve lost them selves in a relationship or a romantic relationship, people who are dealing with life crises, people who are afraid of being themselves, and people who have a hard time recognizing their own voice.
I honestly give this book with even the things that made me feel uncomfortable or uncertain 10 stars for an overall performance exclamation! This book has challenged me and it really help me understand my emotions and feelings and encouraged me to get back into therapy! Thank you Bonita for this book you are such a blessing for writing such a transparent but I am really looking forward to the second portion of this book or maybe even your next book please don’t stop writing thank you so much the world needs this!

I AM BEING SET FREE...AMAZING Book
I am 53 and somewhere over my life I came to the belief that something was seriously wrong with me and was losing hope. THIS BOOK...I am not alone!! Every single page I read brought me to me knees in tears, mostly because someone finally understood me and showed me that I have very special gifts, I know now my intuition can be trusted,I have stopped beating myself up for needed more rest and downtime than many. I can thrive in the areas of my life that others have devalued in me from lack of understanding. Coming from a lifetime of daily emotional abuse really wrecked havoc in my body, mind and spirit. If you struggle with being an HSP then this book is for YOU! The author has been through these struggles herself so she really understands like no other I have found. Her voice is so soothing which is a wonderful asset for us HSP's as we learn to navigate through healing so we can live a life fully alive!

Gifted -not Lacking
I have not read all of the book but when I do have time to listen to pieces I am greatly encouraged .
First , I appreciate that highly sensitive people are gifted and that it is not a negative trait to be highly sensitive . Second, I am encouraged that Benita had the bravery to heal and tell her father about her emotional wounding as a child .
Lastly , the insights are so helpful and enlightening ... more thoughts to come as I finish the book...
