About this listen

When the Gold Rush came to Murrayville, it brought with it rogues and bandits, but none of them more daring than the one who came to be called "The Ghost." He got his name from his mysterious knowledge of all the comings and goings of the town and its gold transportation. The miners and townsfolk had to band together to hire Silver Pete to take care of their ghostly problem.

Editorial reviews

When the Gold Rush came to Murrayville it brought with it all kinds of rogues and bandits, but none of them more daring than the one who came to be called "The Ghost". He got his name from his mysterious knowledge of all the comings of going of the town and its gold transportation. The miners and townsfolk band together to hire Silver Pete to take care of their ghost problem. Ben Murphy performs this mystery of the Old West with a deep gravelly voice that settles right in to the saloons and frontier environments of Max Brand's story.

Brand either makes a a dud or a masterpiece. This is close to the masterpiece side of the spectrum. Ben Murphy is excellent.

Check out “Forgotten Treasure” by Max Brand too. Barry Corbin is also an excellent western narrator.

I Wish the longer Max Brand books had better narrators. Jeff Harding is not a good narrator for Brand classics in my opinion. His Western accent sounds fake to me. Ben Murphy has a cool slight old fashioned New York accent and he does not try and fake a western accent, which I appreciate.

Another great Max Brand
